Hi everyone! My name is Christina and I'm from Canada. I grew up in a first generation immigrant household with both my parents from the Philippines. I completed all my studies in Canada and have attained a Bachelor of Science. I currently work as a Freelance Social Media Manager helping small businesses with their online presence specially on Instagram.

I'm a people person who loves connecting with folks from all different backgrounds, cultures and ages. I am genuinely interesting in getting to know people and what they've done in their life. I enjoy learning from others and sharing my life experiences to better connect to each other and to the world. I find joy from the little things in life and a smile is the universal language to starting a friendly interaction. Being of service to others brings me joy too!

I am curious about the world and how other people live their life! It excites me to immerse myself into the unknown and being out of my comfort zone. I've travelled to 32 countries and excited to explore the world!

I hope to gain unique life experiences through workaway and improve my language skills (specifically Spanish).

I am a native English speaker born in Canada. I am interested in language exchange as I would like to become more fluent in Spanish. I studied biology and psychology in university, but I work in marketing now as a social media manager for small businesses. I can be helpful in creating content for your Instagram accounts if you have your own business!

I work well on my own and with others in a team.

I have many younger cousins whom I've taken care of at some point in their life, organizing things for us to do like going on walks, getting them ready for events, or going to the library to read books.

On the other hand, I've spent a lot of time with my grandparents and keeping them company. I've helped them with daily tasks and going for walks to help keep them active.

I like to take initiative and help around the house whenever I can to keep the house tidy and clean for everyone.

I have my drivers license and can drive automatic cars.

I volunteered for 4 weeks here; 1.5 hrs at the reception and 1.5 for social media (6 days a week), once in a while 3 hrs at the desk. I love this family so much! Thank you Leo, David, and Kona for making me a part of your family. I stayed with them for almost 4 weeks. I enjoyed our dinners together and the days we went to the beach. I ate dinner with them almost every night. Leo is an amazing cook. She took care of my dietary needs and she cooks very healthy! She made a pizza… read more out of carrots one time. Delicious! I had my own room outside the main house and shared a bathroom with Kona. I was able to cook my own meals for lunch since Leo and David are not home during the weekdays. During my stay as well, I met Leo's sister, brother-in-law and mom. All very nice people!

The work is 90% cleaning and taking care of the house. Guest house was cleaned maybe 2-4 times a week (depending on the guests), and house cleaning and laundry varies each day but not too much. This family has a schedule and you will get used to it after a week. The hours to do the work is flexible and I appreciated this a lot since I am not not so much a morning person. Alaró is more of a 30-40 minute walk from their house because there is uphill and downhill in the route. It would benefit the workaway to have a motorbike or car to explore the island more when work is done for the day. I did not have one, so I used the pool often and took advantage of my off days to visit Palma and go to the beaches near there.

On my free time, if it was during the weekdays, I could get a ride in the morning with Leo to Palma and spend the day there until she is done work or I would take the train back and David would be able to pick me up from the station. If it was weekend, they would be able to drop me off and pick me up from the train station. Sometimes, I was able to go with them to the beach! They took me to Pollença and Alcudia. We also went to one of their races where I took care of Kona while Leo and David ran the race! Very active family!

I remember on my first night, Kona did a gesture in sign language and I told them that about it. They bought a book abut sign language the next day! So amazing how they are keen in teaching their son American Sign Language. Kona is so smart and curious, he is learning a lot every day. Kona is the cutest, happiest, smiley baby ever. He loves motorcycles!! It really made my days to interact and spend time with him!

I will see them and possibly stay with them again when I am back in Mallorca. I'm so happy to have met them during my first month in Spain. Gracias por todo!! Until next time!!
