  • Description

Hello! I'm Heidi from from the UK. I'm about to take four months sabbatical from work and am currently looking for opportunities to volunteer in Indonesia/Malaysia in November-December 2025. This has meant resurrecting my Workaway profile after nearly 10 years since I last used it…!

A bit about my background - I live in London (my hometown) where I work on environmental policy for a government ministry. Before that, I spent 5 very happy and exciting years living, working, travelling and volunteering my way around Latin America (including 3 years spent living in Argentina). My background is in foreign languages and public policy.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel extensively in my childhood (spent living in Brussels) and as an adult, mainly in Europe and South America. This will be my first trip to Asia and I’m extremely excited to visit. I’ll be travelling solo for a few weeks before meeting my partner in Nepal for some trekking.

My friends would probably describe me as easy-going, sociable and interested in the world around me. I enjoy nothing more than good conversation with interesting people, and discovering different cultures/languages through travel. So far I've been lucky enough to visit over 40 countries and have lived in 6, with many more on the wish list! I care a lot about sustainability and giving back; I try and move through the world leaving a positive impact behind me. In my free time I enjoy - apart from travelling - yoga, reading, being outdoors (hiking, cycling), cooking and spending time with my friends and family.

When I go to a new place I prefer not to be a tourist - I have always found I’ve had much richer experiences when I immerse myself in a new place as fully as possible, stray off the beaten track and live life as much as I can like a local. There's nothing more satisfying than making new friends who you can share your own culture and experiences with, while learning about their own at the same time! My experience with Workaway is that it’s a brilliant way to achieve this.

I'm prepared to do all kinds of work in return for being hosted - whatever's available, really! I'm a qualified English teacher so would be more than happy to offer lessons (including to children). I have plenty of hospitality experience including working in guesthouses (with Workaway) so would be comfortable doing this too. But I'm very open-minded and up for trying other things as well, like gardening/manual projects; I'm able-bodied, hardworking and good at getting down to tasks - I'll cope with most things thrown at me.

If you're interested in my profile, would like to know more about my experience and/or skills/have any opportunities available for me, send me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
