Description
I've been living abroad for 20+ years, and I spent the past 10+ years as a nomad living and working in two dozen countries, mostly using Workaway to help out people while chasing my passion for travel, photography (especially wildlife), and writing. This minimalist, modest lifestyle fits me, living out of a camera backpack and two sports bags, allowing me to focus on what truly matters in life. I'm building a beautiful photography portfolio in the process while also capturing nature and wildlife videos and writing about my observations to share them.
I find nature, forests, and mountains not only beautiful but also soothing to the soul, an environment that allows my mind to roam free, suitable for brainstorming and coming up with new ideas while observing the natural world around me. I'm as zen as one possibly can be. I have a reflective nature and a rich inner world; hence, I'm drawn to depth, philosophy, and deep conversation.
I'm experienced in general maintenance around the house, using power tools, deep cleaning, gardening, landscaping, cutting down trees with an axe or chainsaw, carpentry, building chairs, remodeling, renovating stuff, painting apartments, and sanding and varnishing wooden furniture, window frames, and shutters. I also worked at Airbnbs, B&Bs, and also a well-known three-star hotel in Switzerland, so I'm familiar with the tasks and responsibilities of running a tourism business. I did housesitting as well in Germany. There is no job too small or too big; I enjoy physical labor and hard work, creating balance from chaos and mess while confronting challenges along the way, and improvising when necessary.
I work most efficiently on my own so I can prioritize the tasks I'm trusted with in a way that makes sense to me. I never hesitate to go the extra mile to get the job done, even if it means working a bit longer. Yet, I can also work in a team. I worked as a team leader before, so I understand the importance of open communication for everyone being on the same page and distributing the tasks at hand according to individual skill sets.
I've been vegan since 2012. I'm independent, so I'm happy to fix meals for myself, especially because I fast sometimes; I skip dinner altogether, and I simply eat whenever I'm hungry. I'm not a social butterfly, but I enjoy sharing travel stories and listening to people so I can learn about their lives and what it means to be a human being through their experiences and stories.
I appreciate kindness, curiosity, and an open mind; open communication; down-to-earth people; and hilarious jokes. I'm chill as the arctic wind; I don’t stress over pretty much anything, I keep it low profile and humble, and I embrace with a grateful heart whatever life throws at me, knowing I've got what it takes to overcome any challenges.
I can share reference photos of my previous tasks at different Workaway hosts so you can see the quality of my work. I can also provide phone numbers in France and Germany, where I stayed with Workaway hosts who were pleased with my work. Some of them hosted me several times and even hired me for paid gigs.
I'm very business-focused and very much interested in entrepreneurship, as I'm building my brand as an artist online, so I'd appreciate a stable internet connection for online work and working on my new websites. I left behind the billionaire-owned (Web 2.0) social networks last year and embraced the decentralized, people-owned fediverse. I’m happy to share my experiences if you are interested. I’m very tech savvy, so I can talk about internet stuff, gadgets, etc. all day long.
Defending and advocating for social democracy, civil rights, equality for all, the right to privacy and happiness, and standing up for the historically oppressed, such as people of color, women, and the most vulnerable, are important to me. Decency is non-negotiable, and so are honesty and compassion for all. I draw a line at injustice, dishonesty, and greed. I’m a big believer in embracing sustainability and renewables as a way to defend democracy and pass our world to the next generation in better shape than we received it. Maintaining our physical and mental health is also crucial to stay balanced; hence, I enjoy long walks, hiking, running, bike rides, and rollerblading, but I do enjoy playing chess too.
I'm open to different assignments and also to doing paid work for extra hours outside of the agreed Workaway hours so I can fund my future travels and invest more in my photography. I'm flexible, so feel free to reach out if you are interested in hosting me and have some projects you need help with.
I recommend you check out my photography, which tells a lot about my work ethic, dedication, consistency, precision, and passion for delivering excellent results. People are happy with my work because I set the bar higher than most when it comes to work, and in essence, I treat each task as if I were working for myself. My hard work brings people joy, and that's a rewarding experience. From the many compliments I've received over the years, one stood out while I was hired to help out at a B&B in Northern Germany for two months, and on the morning when I finally left, the owner thanked me for showing what hard work looks like.
I'm available via iMessage, Signal, Threema and Delta Chat.

What else ...
Once the agreed daily hours are done, I appreciate having the freedom to do my stuff in my free time during my stay, so ideally a small apartment to stay at would be the best so I wouldn't disturb anyone whenever I come and go.
My life is centered around photography. I also love long walks and hiking in my free time, and that often means getting up way before sunrise or leaving hours before sunset to find a good spot to capture gorgeous photos of the golden light at sunset. I normally go to bed early, but sometimes I also do night sky photography after midnight. Each day is different, and I also don't follow a schedule for meals; I just fix some meals whenever I'm hungry. I'd love to have a blender available so I could make smoothies for breakfast.
I prefer a non-smoking household, and I'm definitely not a fan of pets like cats and dogs roaming inside the house or loud barking dogs jumping on me.
I normally stay for 3-4 weeks with a host, which gives me enough time to explore the area and find the next host where I can travel to next. But it happened before that I stayed longer (2-3 months) when my help was needed for a longer period of time. I'm flexible about the length of my stay since normally I don't have a solid travel plan; I simply follow my instinct about where to go and the path that life reveals to me next.
If there is a renewable/sustainability project around your place, I'd love to hear about it because I'd like to capture photos of and document such projects in the future.
I don't do babysitting, petsitting, animal care, tiling and plumbing.
