  • Description

The un-matched sense of "flow" I experience while traveling can sometimes make me believe that I can literally eat stimulation. I'm sure that sentence will likely not translate well. Yet, I have accepted that stimulation is one of my main food groups. I can't help but smile when I see a child climb on rocks or begs to collect a rock to bring home because I am proof that you can grow up to continue to find joy as an adult in those very same experiences. I thrive on finding and connecting with people with whom I can pick up the page where we last left off, no matter how much time has passed. The people who you can literally do NOTHING with and find joy are the ones I believe I will know for a lifetime.

I am hopeful that workaway sites can connect me to wonderful people, cities and experiences. I am in love with "happy accidents" and imagine that this site is full of them, as there is a "chance" of being accepted by one.

More details about my language interests
Being born in South Korea, I have since learned of Noam Chomsky's studies on language acquisition and having been adopted may play a role in my ability to learn languages. I tend to travel by learning a few key phrases prior to a trip, speaking the native tongue with anyone who will talk back to me, and am usually able to acquire a basic conversational level within a few weeks. Having been exposed to South Korean phonemes as an infant does seem to help a lot with southern asian languages the most, which aligns with Noam Chomsky's studies. I am happy to help others learn English and learn a new language! I am a teacher at heart and pedagogy is a skill not always found in teaching that I try to keep alive and well.

  • More details about your skills

Formally, I am a behavior analyst by trade and have experience with children/adolescents/young adults in both therapeutic and non-therapeutic settings, collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams, education and visual / performing arts. I grew up in a household where my Dad taught me that we can fix what is broken vs. constantly throwing it away to buy a new version so random projects I tend to do well with. I am great with organization of materials with the understanding that the mess must become bigger in order to become organized. I can provide creative, aesthetic ideas, paint, collect photography of new spaces or document progress, create written narratives or learn a new trade. The best scenario is that I can float around and in-between different activities using a mix of different skill sets.

  • What else ...

I love to hike, especially if it involves climbing on rocks, beautiful summits and a cup of coffee. I can be both an introvert and an extrovert - very social and talkative but can also curl up in a corner with a great book or go on a solo hike for a few hours. I tend to keep up with my favorite people via phone not text and tend to connect more quickly when people are not constantly on their phones.

I love a great game of rummy, Fluxx, etc. if the downtime presents itself. But most often, I will take any opportunity, especially in a walking city, to explore and see what there is to be found. Having some helpful suggestions to start me off is usually all I need for a day of exploration, leads on next places to go and memories to take with me to the next zip code.
