Hello people of workaway...
My name is Diane, I am from Australia and at the time of writing this, I am planning my first independent trip overseas with my friends. Given my little experience travelling and meeting people outside of the bubble of my home, I am very much motivated by the stories told by my friends and family of their travels and adventures which they continue to re-tell with much enthusiasm and detail. I am wanting to keep an open-minded and curious attitude throughout my adventure and I am very excited to get to know places and cultures through meeting locals or other people with different walks of life to me. My friends and family have made lifelong friends overseas - so hopefully I will make friends too. Whilst it is true that tourists can go about travelling and getting to know places by booking Airbnbs or hostels, what appeals to me about workawaying instead is the fact that it allows you to have more genuine interactions with locals. I think that the best way to get to know the essence of a place and culture is by spending time with the people that live there and getting to know what their daily routine looks like.Interests

More details about your skills
Over the past year, I’ve been working regularly at a fast-paced chicken shop (Red Rooster) in Australia, handling both back-of-house food preparation and front-of-house customer service. It’s given me a solid work ethic, the ability to multitask under pressure, and experience working and communicating well in a team.
Alongside that, I’ve also been working as an assistant coach at my soccer club a couple of days a week, helping run drills and mini games for kids aged 5 to 16. I really enjoy working with young people and being part of something active and community-focused. In terms of personal skills, I’m semi-fluent in French through my mum’s side of the family. I love getting creative in my free time. I sketch, paint, and crochet, and I’m always keen to learn new hands-on or artistic skills. I’d describe myself as reliable, open-minded, and easy to get along with. I’m happy to help wherever I can and enjoy learning from the people and environments around me.
I also really love being in nature. I’ve been on a cross-country canoe camp twice where I ventured in a small group to different islands in a large lake over 2 weeks and regularly go camping with my friends. I enjoy the simplicity of the day-to-day, allowing you to get closer and more in sync with the people you are with, the adventure of living and spending time in a new place and just being outdoors. I’m happy living simply, pulling my weight in shared spaces, and adapting to whatever needs doing.
Overall, I’m reliable, open-minded, and always willing to help and learn. I may not be an expert in everything, but I bring a good work ethic and a curious attitude to whatever I’m part of.Age

What else ...
I have always loved sketching, painting or anything creative. I keep a journal that I regularly sketch and write that I bring with me everywhere. I am also painting golden flowers on my wardrobe and plan to paint vines along the corners of my walls. I enjoy the process of using my room as a space that reflects me as a person. This year, I've been gaining interest in music - I have been learning some songs on my guitar, piano and ukulele through YouTube.
I also love bike riding. It is my chosen mode of transport to anything, as I've grown up getting to get places on my own. For example, I'll often ride to my friends houses, to parties and events, because it is much quicker than taking public transport and I can be independent.
I am also very passionate and enthusiastic about the board game Werewolf or Loup-garou in French. It is a game where you play a character, but your identity is concealed and you have to work as a team to find the werewolves in the village. It is so much fun with a big group of people and every person I've played it with becomes obsessed with it once they know how it works. Some more information
