Description
Hola!
I'm Débora, a 28-year-old traveler from Mexico, currently exploring Canada while continuing to grow both personally and professionally.
I'm especially interested in tourism, hospitality, eco-projects, guest interaction, DIY projects, gardening, bio - construction, maintenance, and any opportunity to learn practical skills. I enjoy staying active, working with my hands, and being part of a team. I love stepping outside my comfort zone and learning by doing.
Before coming to Canada, I worked in tourism and customer service in Mexico and Colombia, mainly in hostels (but also hotels), where I managed front desk operations, reservations, guest assistance, and volunteer coordination. I also participated in volunteer projects involving painting, basic maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep. In addition, I've worked in office environments, providing administrative support and customer service through phone and online chat.
For the past year, I've been living and working in Canada. I started as a Retail Associate in one of Canada's largest specialty art supply stores, helping customers find the right products among more than 30,000 items. Shortly after, I was promoted to the Inventory team, where I became responsible for cycle counts and inventory accuracy across the store. I regularly audited high-turnover products such as paper, sketchbooks, canvases, brushes, acrylic, oil and watercolor paints, markers, and many other art supplies across multiple brands. During my time there, I've personally counted and verified inventory for most of the store, helping maintain accurate stock levels and ensuring smooth daily operations. This experience strengthened my attention to detail, organization, independence, and problem-solving skills.
I studied Anthropology at university from 2018 to 2021, completing over 286 credits. During the pandemic, online classes made me realize that, while I loved anthropology and everything it taught me about people and cultures, I wanted to learn beyond the classroom. I decided to take a sabbatical to travel, experience different ways of life firsthand, and continue learning through real-life experiences. Although I never returned to university, I never stopped learning. That decision has shaped the person I am today and continues to inspire the way I connect with people and approach every new experience.
What I love most about traveling isn't just visiting new places—it's experiencing them through the people I meet. I enjoy learning how different communities live, what they value, the stories they share, and the little everyday moments that make each place unique. That's probably the anthropology student in me, and it's one of the main reasons why I love volunteering. For me, cultural exchange isn't just about visiting somewhere new—it's about truly living the experience, sharing it with others, and leaving every place having learned something meaningful.
I understand Portuguese and I'm currently working on becoming more confident speaking it. Since I'll be traveling through Brazil, I'm excited to improve my Portuguese while learning from local communities and sharing my own culture.
I believe some of the best lessons don't come from classrooms—they come from conversations around a dinner table, working side by side with others, and calling unfamiliar places home, even if only for a little while. I hope to contribute my skills, continue learning, meet inspiring people, and create meaningful connections throughout Brazil. I'm reliable, adaptable, respectful, hardworking, and always happy to help—whether that's welcoming guests, working outdoors, tackling practical projects, or simply lending a hand wherever it's needed.
Looking forward to meeting you and creating something great together!
Thanks for reading!

What else ...
I also play a little guitar and a bit more ukulele. I love singing, although I still get a little nervous sometimes! One thing I'm really good at is organizing karaoke nights. Somehow, even the shyest person ends up singing by the end of the evening.
I enjoy reading, listening to all kinds of music, gardening, and painting in my free time. I even started a small garden in Canada with a friend, where we grew radishes, cilantro, tomatoes, and chili peppers.
I've painted a couple of large murals for a hostel in Puerto Vallarta and a few smaller pieces for a coffee shop in Guanajuato. I'm not a professional artist—I just put a lot of love into what I create, and I'm always happy with the result.
I'd also love to develop my musical skills and learn more about ecology and natural building (bio-construction). I'm a creative, curious person, and I genuinely enjoy learning new things and taking on new challenges. -
