Description
I’m Clara (25) and like most people on Workaway, I love cultural exchange, volunteering, and spending time outdoors.
Growing up in the country side of northern Germany I have had to help my family with house and garden work all my life. For some people living in a rural area might seem boring, for my part I have never been running out of options of what's next. I learned to love creating, building and maintaining stuff as well as having my own animals to take care of. This also includes being part of a small community where one helps another.
Nevertheless, I also wanted to see the world.
After finishing high school, I volunteered in the U.S., living in a lifesharing home and supporting young adults with special needs. That experience taught me early on how to be independet and to take care of others in nearly every aspect of life.
During that time, I also met Helen, who I am now traveling with.
Knowing that I wanna contribute to a community and interact with people in a direct way, I studied to become a teacher for English and Geography at the baltic sea. Also, Lena who studied nearly the same became a good friend - we now both finished our studies and are ready to get out of the books and into the world.
I also spent a semester at the University of Hanoi, Vietnam and did internships teaching English at two different schools. Before, I did do an internship at a Finnish primary school, but this again gave me more insight into international education and teaching methods.
Workaway and other things I've done:
My first Workaway took me to Swedish Lapland for woodwork, maintenance and running an Airbnb in the Arctic Circle.
In Indonesia I've been at a durian farm and a permaculture garden, where I got hands-on experience in sustainable farming.
In the Philippines I helped at a restaurant, preparing ingredients, serving customers and different chores that needed to be done.
In Germany I also worked in a warehouse, did bartending and been service staff at different local festivals.
I'd love to gain more experience and skills and help out with the skills that I've already got - and along the way meet more people from all different backgrounds and cultures - as I truly believe that strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet.
Always happy to learn something new and help wherever needed!
If you have any questions about my skills or anything else, feel free to ask! I’d love to hear from you.

Hi, I’m Lena: the good friend Clara briefly mentioned above 😇 I’m 25 years old and originally from Northern Germany, where I live very close to the Baltic Sea : so I’m definitely a coastal kid at heart. Growing up by the sea shaped my love for nature, open landscapes, and a relaxed lifestyle. I enjoy long walks, spending time outdoors, and finding balance through yoga.
I’ve recently finished my teacher training studies and I’m on my way to becoming a german language and geography teacher. Since I want to be a teacher and teach geography in an authentic and inspiring way, I believe it’s important to experience the world beyond textbooks. For me, traveling is not just about seeing new places, but about truly immersing myself in different cultures, meeting people, and learning from their everyday life. I already gained international experience through internships and study programmes abroad and had the chance to live in exciting cities like Paris, France and Gothenburg, Sweden. These experiences made me open-minded, adaptable, and even more curious about the world.
In addition to my international experiences, I also dedicated time to social engagement: In the past, I completed a voluntary social year in a hospital, working on an oncology ward, which taught me responsibility, empathy, and how important kindness is in everyday life. I also occasionally volunteer with the German Red Cross, supporting local sport events and helping out with first aid.
A few things about me: I’m a real coffeeholic and love discovering cozy cafés wherever I go. Creativity is also a big part of my personality. I enjoy working on creative projects, coming up with new ideas, and bringing positive energy into a place. I’m very child-friendly, love animals, and I genuinely enjoy helping others.
I’m excited to connect with new people, learn new skills, and be part of meaningful projects through Workaway.
Lena 😊
