  • Description

Hi! I’m Annemarie, a curious traveller with a big love for new cultures, meaningful connections, and slow living. I’m heading off on a journey through Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vientam & Cambodia, and looking to give my time and energy in exchange for experiences that leave a positive impact.

I’ve got a background in project management, charity work, holistic therapies, hospitality, teaching and youth work. I have also completed my 200-hours Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India. I’m happiest when I’m learning something new, whether that’s cooking local food, gardening, helping with creative projects, or lending a hand around a home or community space.

    🌍 What I Can Offer
Organised, reliable, and proactive, happy to take initiative

    Strong communication skills and personable.

Experience in management, admin, safeguarding, childcare and youth work, hospitality, animal care, gardening, and charity work, including supporting asylum seekers and advocating for girls rights.

A creative side: I enjoy cooking veggie meals, reading, yoga, organising workshops. I am also trained in holistic therapies, and have a Level 3 in Swedish massage, aromatherapy, refelxology and Indian head massage and have a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training qualification. I also love to create homemade, natural skincare products.

    Flexible, open-minded, and positive energy

    💫 What I’m Looking For
I’d love to stay in places that value community, sustainability, and creativity. I’m especially interested in Workaways involving:

Yoga / wellness / community living

    Eco projects or permaculture

    Helping in hostels / guesthouses

    Supporting charities or community initiatives

    Cultural exchange with families

    ✨ Why Workaway?
For me, Workaway is about more than just exchanging skills, it’s about sharing stories, learning from others, and leaving places better than I found them.

I’m excited to bring my energy, skills, and enthusiasm wherever I go, and to learn from the people I meet along the way.

    🌟 Skills & Experience
I bring a mix of practical, organisational, and creative skills, alongside a background in holistic wellbeing:

Project & Community Work: Experienced in project management, general admin and budget management, organising events, and supporting community and charity initiatives, specifically around youth engagement and development. I’m reliable, adaptable, and good at taking initiative.

Hospitality & Guest Support: Comfortable helping with reception, admin, cleaning, food prep, and making guests feel welcome.

Teaching & Workshops: Passionate about sharing knowledge, whether it’s helping with English conversation practice, leading group activities, or creating a safe, welcoming environment for learning. I have worked with young people with English as an other or second language, and created and facilitated workshops and sessions to support in their development, skills and confidence.

Holistic Therapies: I have a Level 3 in holistic practices including Swedish massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, and Indian head massage. I have also been practicing Samatha meditation for the past 5 years and will be studying a 2oo-hour Yoga Teacher Training Course in November. I enjoy supporting wellbeing through relaxation techniques, breathwork, and mindful movement.

Creative Skills: Love cooking vegetarian/vegan meals, writing, and bringing creative ideas into group projects.

Outdoor & Practical: Happy to get hands-on with gardening and eco-living tasks. I have volunteered with animal sanctuaries in my local area, providing support and care for both domesticated and farm animals.

I enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, and I try to bring positivity, calm energy, and care into everything I do.

    🌱 About Me
Hi, I’m Annemarie! I’m a traveller with a passion for community, wellbeing, and cultural exchange. For the past six years I’ve worked in youth and community programmes across the UK, supporting young people through education, wellbeing, employability, and creative projects. My journey has taken me from frontline youth work to programme management with international NGOs, and alongside that I’ve studied holistic therapies and practise yoga and meditation daily.

I’m excited to explore South-East Asia through Workaway, where I can share my skills, learn new ones, and contribute to projects that create positive impact.

    🌟 Skills & Experience

Project & Programme Management: My most recent role as Project Manager for Plan International UK’s Young Health Programme, focused on youth mental health and wellbeing. Previously Programmes Manager at Depaul UK, where I managed education and employability programmes, budgets, grants, and teams of staff and volunteers.

Youth & Community Work: Extensive experience supporting young people through Groundwork UK, Parenting 2000, Depaul UK, and the British Red Cross. Skilled in creating safe spaces, running workshops, facilitating group projects, and ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing.

I also have a passion for volunteering with animals, including farm animals, cats, and dogs, and have supported shelters locally. Internationally, I’ve volunteered in India working with children who had been bonded into labour, helping to create safe, educational, and supportive environments. These experiences have strengthened my adaptability, empathy, and ability to connect with people and animals from all walks of life.

Leadership & Facilitation: Line-managed teams, coordinated volunteers, facilitated training, inductions, and events, and worked closely with partners and agencies to support youth development.

Holistic Therapies: Studied massage, Swedish aromatherapy, reflexology, and Indian head massage. Passionate about supporting wellbeing through relaxation, mindfulness, and yoga.

Practical & Creative Skills: Happy to help with hospitality, cooking (vegetarian/vegan meals), gardening, admin, or eco-living tasks. Love bringing creativity into projects through writing or workshop design.

    🌿 What else …
I love cooking fresh vegetarian meals, being outdoors, and immersing myself in new cultures. Yoga and meditation are a big part of my daily life, and I enjoy sharing these practices with others.

I’m adaptable and happy in both lively community projects and quieter eco-spaces. Above all, I believe in kindness, communication, and leaving places better than I found them. I bring a mix of professionalism, creativity, and positive energy to every project I join and I’m always excited to learn from others along the way.
