  • Description

I am deeply motivated by the desire to immerse myself in cultures different from my own and to feel more connected to my roots, my family, and the world around me. I am half Latina, but I did not grow up speaking Spanish, and this has created a distance between me and many of my own family members. Learning Spanish now feels like reclaiming a part of myself that has always been waiting quietly. It is not just about language, it is about belonging, understanding, and being able to share stories, meals, and moments without barriers.
Food is another profound source of purpose and curiosity in my life. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Human Nutrition and will soon become a Registered Dietitian. I am fascinated by the entire lifecycle of food, from soil and seed, to harvest, to cooking, to the way it ultimately nourishes individuals and shapes communities. I am especially interested in learning about farming, local food systems, and how access to food influences health, culture, and daily life. Every new ingredient, method, or perspective feels like a small revelation. Food, to me, is both science and love made visible.
I am also deeply connected to the outdoors. Nature is where I feel most grounded, most present, and most alive. I founded the first hiking club at my university, which has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. It has allowed me to build a community centered around curiosity, movement, and shared appreciation for the natural world. I am happiest outside, whether hiking, working with my hands, or simply observing the quiet rhythms of a place.

More details about my language interests
I am currently learning Spanish because I have family members who speak Spanish, but I cannot communicate with them well. It is very important to me to learn so I can connect with them, understand my heritage better, and feel closer to my family. I am excited to improve through immersion and everyday conversation, and I would also be happy to help others practice English.

  • More details about your skills

I bring a wide range of practical skills shaped by my experience in food service, healthcare, agriculture, and outdoor living.
For the past three years, I have worked in food service and helped manage kitchens, where I gained a strong understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and teamwork in fast-paced environments. I am ServSafe certified and very comfortable with food handling, preparation, and maintaining clean, organized workspaces. Because I am pursuing my Master’s degree in Human Nutrition, I also have extensive knowledge of nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, and how food supports human health. I love cooking and working with fresh, whole ingredients, and I am always eager to learn new techniques and traditions.
I also have hands-on farming experience. I worked on a farm that ran a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, where I participated in harvesting crops, cutting sod, packing produce, and helping deliver fresh food to schools across Alabama for summer nutrition programs. This experience taught me the realities of food production and strengthened my appreciation for the labor and care behind every meal.
I grew up in a very rural, wooded environment and am deeply comfortable outdoors. I have experience with building small structures like treehouses and sheds, camping, hiking, trail running, and basic wilderness skills. I am physically capable, adaptable, and enjoy hands-on work.
I am also the second oldest of six siblings and have extensive experience caring for children of all ages, from infants to adolescents. This has made me patient, responsible, and attentive to the needs of others.
Overall, I am a hard worker, quick learner, and someone who genuinely enjoys contributing. I am especially excited to help with anything related to food, farming, outdoor work, or cooking.

  • What else ...

I am a very curious person and love learning new skills. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, cooking, reading, sewing, and spending time outdoors. I especially love being in nature, whether that is hiking, swimming, or just watching the sunset. I also enjoy creative hobbies like playing the ukulele and keyboard, and singing. I am currently trying to improve my line dancing skills haha!
I am a very energetic and enthusiastic person, and I love being involved, helping out, and bringing positive energy into the spaces I am in. I value simple living, meaningful conversations, and learning from the people around me. I am excited to experience new ways of life and contribute wherever I can.
