  • Description

Ciao ragazzi! Andrea here, a smiling-36-years-old italian guy who loves travelling, playing, making new connections and avid of expriences! I'm starting my travel journey looking for a spring+summer+spring+ summer year (In Australia and... wherever)! I'll join Melbourne as my fist step but I'd like to visit other countries in Oceania and Asia to take advantage of this far-away-experience!

I quit my job and I left my home country looking for a "worth-experience" to live: seeing distant places, learning new cultures very different from my own, opening myself up to the world. My goal is to fill my eyes with beautiful landscapes and to fill my heart with amazing experiences and people.

This is my first experience on Workaway (but not my first experience as a solo traveller!).

I live in Abano Terme, a small spa town near the Euganean Hills, only 10 km from Padua, a city full of culture, students and economy. Part of my family is from Apulia, a beautiful region in the sunny South of Italy, where sun, beach, good weather and excellent food are a must.

In my professional life I work in digital marketing and communication as a freelancer. I recently finished working with a company that creates software for football coaches, professionals and other businesses (it was great to I connected my passion for sport with my work, but it was also time to change). I have a Master’s degree in Management and I'm currently a student in Sport Science Bachelor Degree.

In my daily job I write newsletters, blog articles, and create digital strategies. But marketing is only a part of who I am.

I have many passions: I am a football coach and sport educator, I work with children and teenagers with autism (I have a Working With Children Check WWC3187001E - New South Wales), I take part in social projects and sometimes I work in hospitality. Recently, I also became a new Airbnb host, helping my family with a small apartment in Padua, where I like to welcome guests and show them the city where I grew up.

During university I studied for short periods in Germany and the UK. I also travelled a lot in Italy (17 out of 21 regions) and in Europe: Spain, Netherlands, Malta, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic.
I never had a long experience abroad (more than 40 days), and now I want to do it - that's why I'm here for! :)

I think I am flexible and able to adapt. I am not the “life of the party”, but I am social and open with people. I have good empathy and listening skills, I smile a lot and my friends know me for that. I like to be active, productive and helpful. I am respectful and discreet. I also have good organization skills, but at the same time I am creative and like to find new ideas (especially for gifts!). If an adventure excites me, I don’t step back.

For me, success means: connect with others, leave something good, help, share and build meaningful relationships.

I am very happy to start this adventure with Workaway, to discover new cultures and make my life richer with unique experiences. I can’t wait to share my story and give my best in the projects where I will be hosted.

  • Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

    Some knowledge of:

    Charity Work
  • More details about your skills

    DIGITAL MARKETING, MANAGEMENT:
I can give value to a project, create an identity and find strong points. My daily work is writing and newsletters. I have good coordination and project management skills, and I know many online tools.
    Digital marketing strategy
    Newsletter and email marketing
    User experience
    Social media and content marketing
If useful, I am happy to share these skills! For more information, here is my LinkedIn: Andrea Dragone

    WORKING WITH CHILDREN:
I can work well with children of different ages. I like to make them play, using three key ingredients: creativity, empathy and adaptation.
Manage groups and create educational activities
    Teach with creativity and empathy
Organize games and small programs, also with limited resources

    HOSPITALITY:
I have experience in mountain huts and bars, where I learned how to:
    Manage orders and serve customers
    Prepare coffee and cappuccino
Work in a team and keep spaces clean and tidy

    GENERAL HAND, MANUAL WORK:
I don’t have specific technical skills, but I am willing to learn. I believe manual work is a good balance with my digital job. I can support and work hard to learn new things. I am not afraid of practical work where you need to “get your hands dirty”. For me, manual tasks are a good balance to many hours at the desk. I don’t have specific technical skills, but I can give support and I am motivated to learn and improve my manual skills.

  • What else ...

    OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, TREKKING:
I love spending time outdoors, far from the computer screen. In the last years I discovered trekking and now it is one of my passions. I often walk in the Euganean Hills (where I live) and in the Dolomites. Summer, winter, autumn or spring — it doesn’t matter, I just like fresh air, backpack on my shoulders, and go!
In 2023 I did my first long walk alone: the “Cammino del Salento” in South Italy. It was a 15-day adventure with the sun and the sea always close. This experience taught me the value of simple things, the joy of nature and the beauty of walking by the sea.

    SOCCER, SPORT, EDUCATION:
I have more than 15 years of experience as a football coach for children U8-U12. I also managed summer camps and school projects. For the last 3 years I have worked with an organization that supports children with autism, creating and leading sport and motor activities for them. Working with kids is a wonderful experience: you teach, but you also learn a lot.

In Sydeny I got my Working With Children Check

    MUSIC, GUITAR:
I love live music and the good vibes of concerts. I started playing guitar 2 years and a half ago and I found a new special passion. My dream is to play a small live concert with the songs I love. While travelling, I will miss “Spalla”, my guitar!
Favorite artist now: Ed Sheeran. Favorite genres: pop, rock, blues.

    SOCIAL PROJECT:
I created and managed the project “Passa le scarpe” with the NGO WeFootball / The Small Now. In 5 years we collected more than 2,000 pairs of football shoes in good condition and donated them to kids in difficult situations in Mathare and Kisumu (Kenya).

    EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS:
I enjoy working with kids and making educational activities in schools.

    CREATIVITY AND HANDCRAFT:
I love to create with my hands. For special occasions (Christmas, birthdays, parties) I like to make handmade gifts using recycled materials. For example, I created small Christmas lights with old Nespresso capsules.

    SPORT EVENTS:
I love big sport events and I worked as a volunteer at UEFA Europa League and Champions League matches.

    OTHER THINGS I LOVE:
Reading, TED Talks, dogs (less cats 😊), slackline, podcasts, trekking. I am also a master in mascarpone cream! I would like to learn how to bake bread and try climbing.
Of course, I love travelling — otherwise I would not be here!
