Description
I am at my happiest when I travel to new countries to meet new people and learn about new cultures. That's what nourishes my soul :) I'm hoping to make myself useful while I travel, so if you need a sociable, honest, service minded and light hearted person in your staff for a while, it could be me :)

A little about me:
I am working as an environmental worker. Women's shelter, drug addiction and psychiatric diseases are key words for my jobs within this field.
I am also working as a teacher and as a host (in a concert arena). I love diversity and variety, that's why I hold different jobs :)
I recently turned 56 and like most older people I don't feel old ;) My youngest friend is 25 and the oldest is 61. I have a son who is 29 (and also loves to travel).
I love going to concerts, movies, debates, book releases... anything cultural!

I'm trying to give you an idea of who I am and if I'll fit into your world for a while. I am very easy going, I adapt easily and definitely consider myself a people person.

My English is good and I also speak a bit German and Spanish. My mother tongue is the not-so-useful language Norwegian, and I understand all the Scandinavian languages.

I'm easygoing, honest and open minded (yes, I think of them as skills) 😉
Most of my professional skills come from the service industry, counseling and teaching.

I'm also very practical and used to maintain my own home. Unless it required professional handling, of course.
More than anything I have people skills! I know how to treat people, to go the extra mile... This is also why I've done 25 years of voluntary work in my country; I love to be of help :)

Such a nice stay! The hostel, the people in it, the city... I enjoyed Durrës tremendously for almost four weeks. I'm so happy I got the opportunity to meet the nicest and friendliest manager ever- Antea, and my co-volunteers from so many countries.

These people are amazing! So welcoming and including! I spent 3,5 weeks in the house of Fred's mother, Rose. Rose is a wonderful person and I have so much respect for her. She and I had some good adventures together.

Fred came around every day. He would take me on a few housecalls and once we visited a school where I played with the children.… read more The housecalls were powerful meetings with women affected by epilepsy or mental illnesses. They shared their stories willingly, and it was interesting, painful and frustrating to hear all the ordeals they've been through. And still go through.

Other than this I didn't really do much. I felt like more of a houseguest than a volunteer. I had come there to work, to make an effort raising awareness, help spread information, maybe do some teaching or other work. But there wasn't any. There was a mentioning of a speech Fred wanted me to give, but it never happened. So in my head I was questioning my purpose of being there-. I loved staying with this family, but found myself rather useless most of the time. So I tried to find little things I could do around the house. And went on adventures with Rose :)

Fred has a big heart and is passionate about his organization. The world would be a better place if we all had that passion.
During the time I was there, the organization got more public attention and more resources, and Fred was busier than usual. This could explain why there was so little for me to do. It was very nice to be there though - to see this breakthrough happen :)

The organization needs of course money to survive and expand. Fred continuously writes applications for grants. Despite this I found myself very surprised when I was asked to donate. As a Workaway volunteer I didn't expect it. And I didn't appreciate being asked. I was there to donate my time and energy, not to help financially.

As a conclusion I will say that this family is Excellent. They are truly brilliant people. And the women from Fred's tailoring class are all very nice and sweet. The experience with little to do and being asked for money is the reason why I rate this Very Good instead of Excellent.
But if you get a chance to stay with them, please do. You will experience wonderful hospitality in a rural area outside of Nairobi while being safe and well taken care of. Maybe a shorter stay than mine will be better at this point.

yasmin is an incredible person she was helping in the house chores and also listens keenly she has a great heart and definitely would host her again she has become part of our family and we were lucky to have her this time she is a person full of life and happiness and has taught us many things
Would recommend for anyone this wonderful lady

This family is incredibly including and generous in every way. Do not hesitate to work here if you get the chance :) The villa is beautiful, the garden is lovely (you always discover something new) and the city is so colorful and charming. And their dog has got to be the most peaceful and friendliest ever!
