Hi, my name is Ulrike - but most people call me Rike. I’m 23 years old and originally from the south of Germany. In 2022, I moved to Berlin to study occupational therapy, and I finished my degree in March 2026.
Before starting my professional journey as an occupational therapist, I would love to travel for a longer period of time (6-8 weeks) and gain new experiences abroad on my own. I recently discovered Workaway and think it’s the perfect balance between working, meeting new people, learning, and traveling.
In my free time, I enjoy being active - especially playing basketball and football and I also like trying new sports. I really want to learn how to surf, I only tried it once in Cape Town and it was amazing! I love traveling, cooking, listening to music (concerts and festivals), and spending time with friends. I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds and being part of a team.
I would describe myself as reliable, flexible, open-minded, and responsible. During my stay, I hope to meet new people and build connections while exploring the area and taking part in activities together.
I’m very excited about this opportunity and I’m looking forward to what will surely be a very special experience!

I completed my Abitur (German high school diploma) in 2021 and then took a year to explore career options and travel. During that year, I worked for two months in the warehouse of a wholesale company and completed several internships in occupational therapy settings, where I discovered my passion for this field. I also spent nine weeks in Cape Town as a volunteer at a children’s center, which gave me valuable experience working with kids and my first taste of independent travel.
In 2022, I began studying occupational therapy in Berlin. As part of my studies, I completed four internships, each lasting ten weeks, in different areas including psychiatry, pediatrics, neurology, and occupational therapy for adults. These experiences gave me practical insights into the profession and strengthened my interest in helping people improve their daily lives.
I consider myself very adaptable and enjoy working with people of all ages. I love creative projects such as crafting and painting, and I work well in a team. I’m generally a positive person. I love sports, especially basketball and football and I’m eager to learn how to surf.
I haven’t worked in a hostel before, but I’m open to all kinds of tasks and I’m sure I’ll quickly get used to the hostel lifestyle and routine.
