  • Description

I'm an easygoing but hardworking, physically fit and dependable 30-something (when do you have to start saying "almost 40?") with itchy feet, a silly sense of humor and the ability to talk to and get on with anybody. I'm confident and very capable, pro-active and reliable, and I learn new things really quickly.

I've just spent the summer managing a 50-pitch campsite in the UK, completely solo, and responsible for, well, everything. It's remote (20 min drive from the main road) and I lived there by myself in a safari tent for best part of 6 months. Suffice it to say I left with considerably more amateur-experience in plumbing, carpentry, basic repairs (and bigger shoulders!) than I arrived with...

Other than that, when it comes to hospitality and customer service I've done it all over the last 20 years. Pubs, youth centres, campsites, complaints and tech support... I know my way round affiliate marketing, SEO, and I even built and sold websites during the pandemic.

I can also drive, have an alcohol licence, a L2/3 Food and Hygiene Certificate, a L3 First Aid Certificate, Fire Warden and Evac Chair training, an enhanced DBS Certificate, and lots of experience with SEN kids.

As a guest, I'm easy. I don't take up a lot of space, eat most things (flexitarian?) and won't hog the hot water. I can cook for me or a crowd and will always volunteer to wash up. I'm happy to drink socially, or not, have no allergies, addictions or mental health issues, and I don't smoke.

Regarding languages. I studied French for my entire school life and then some, so it's definitely all still there but rusty, I can do tourist-level German, and 6 months in South America got me to basic conversations in Espanol. I also taught English in Prague for a little bit circa 2014 and have a Trinity TESOL certificate.

I love the concept of Workaway and want to incorporate it more into my travelling, which I'm planning on doing more of. I like long-term stays and getting to know people and learning things. I want to be more self-sufficient and a small holding or similar is where I'd like to end up but I've got a lot to learn and would like to get started with that!

  • More details about your skills

20 years hospitality experience including pubs, campsites, youth zones, and rugby clubs...

I'm also a qualified TEFL teacher (I got my Trinity Certificate in Prague in 2014) and I love language. I speak fluent (A-level and a bit more) but rusty French, basic German and I'm successfully learning Spanish ready for my trip to Peru in a few months. I've also got a smattering of tourist level Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Welsh...

During lockdown I was working from home as a freelance writer and also dabbled in web design, digital marketing, outbound email campaigns, Print on Demand, affiliate marketing, blogging, social media marketing etc and I'm pretty well versed in the basics.

I can follow instructions when it comes to gardening but, to be honest, I'm mostly an enthusiastic labourer who doesn't mind heavy work in any weather - having been a postwoman in the Welsh mountains during Winter! I'm super keen to learn and stronger than I look :)
