  • Description

Hi! 😃👋 I’m Fabio or Lorenzo, whichever you prefer.

I’m an Italian traveller, conservation artist and photographer, recently back in Italy after four years, mostly in Australia, where I lived alongside Aboriginal communities, in remote rainforests, deserts and on coral reef islands. I grew up between the Tuscan countryside, near Florence, and the Dolomites, and have always been drawn to nature, wildlife, history and the outdoors.

I mainly work on wildlife conservation projects through illustration, photography and volunteering 🎨📷, but I’m definitely not only about art. I enjoy practical work, getting my hands dirty and being useful. I’m happy to help with gardening, maintenance, cleaning, outdoor work, house and dog sitting, basic farm tasks or simply whatever needs to be done. I’m used to physical work, simple living and adapting to different environments.

In my free time, I frequently organise multi-day trekking trips and small adventures for friends and other people, often in remote mountains and forests. I usually take care of everything myself: planning routes, navigation, equipment, food, logistics and making sure everyone is prepared (and comes back in one piece!) 🏕️🥾🌲

When the place and occasion call for it, I also like dressing well, often with a vintage touch, and I’m increasingly interested in natural fabrics and traditional craftsmanship. I’m just as comfortable around a campfire in muddy boots as I am sitting at a dinner table in an old country house. 🍂🎩

I have experience with camping, bushcraft, campfires, cooking, some farm work and basic first aid. I’ve also had some experience caring for animals such as dogs, cows and goats. I’m not afraid to say “I have no clue” when I don’t: I’d rather learn properly from someone with more experience.

I’m naturally curious and love learning from the people I meet. I’m particularly interested in natural sciences, wildlife, history, exploration and anthropology, and I’m always happy to share what I know while also listening to your stories.

What I’m looking for through Workaway is not simply a place to stay, but a place where I can genuinely contribute, learn new skills and become part of the daily life of the people I’m staying with. I’m respectful of other people’s homes and routines, and comfortable both with outdoor work and more domestic environments.

And yes, I can cook too! I’ve cooked privately for families in Australia, preparing meals in their homes, and really enjoyed the experience. I particularly like experimenting with local and wild ingredients, although a good pasta al pomodoro will always have a special place in my heart. 🍝😂

I’ve added some photos of my cooking to the photo section, so you can have a look!

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Ciao! 👋🤠

    🌿 Gardening & outdoor work
I have experience with gardening both through Workaway and at home, including pruning, general garden maintenance, planting and apple picking. I’ve also helped with making fresh apple juice. I’m happy working outdoors in all kinds of weather and I actually thrive in the rain and don’t mind working in pouring rain or difficult weather. During one Workaway in a rainforest, we even worked through a flood, helping move and protect everything inside the house while there was also a risk of crocodiles in the rising water. Once the water went down, we spent the whole day cleaning mud out of the house.

🔨 Basic maintenance & general help
I’m comfortable with the small jobs that need doing around a house or property: basic maintenance, cleaning, organising, moving things, looking after outdoor areas and keeping things in order. I also have experience with house sitting in both Australia and Normandy, including looking after a large property, its garden and welcoming and helping guests while the owners were away.

🐕 Dog sitting & animal care
I have experience looking after dogs, including taking them out two or three times a day for walks, running and playtime. I also have some experience caring for cows and goats and helping with basic farm work.

🍳 Cooking, foraging & local ingredients
I’ve cooked privately for families in Australia and really enjoy making the most of whatever ingredients are available. I like visiting local markets to discover regional products, foraging for edible plants and mushrooms when I know them well, and experimenting with herbs and other plants used for food, traditional remedies and homemade liqueurs. I enjoy mixing Italian cooking with local traditions, or simply inventing something from the ingredients I have available — always with care and a good understanding of what I’m using.

    🏕️ Outdoor & adventure skills
I’m comfortable camping for extended periods with basic equipment and building a simple base camp from scratch. I have experience with bushcraft, fire making, outdoor cooking, navigation, route planning and organising multi-day trips, including taking care of equipment, food and logistics.

    🤝 And generally…
I’m happy to help with whatever needs doing, even if it’s something I’ve never done before. I learn quickly, I’m not afraid of physical work, and I’d rather be shown how to do something properly than pretend I already know.

  • What else ...

At the moment, I’m looking for a place where I could stay long-term. Somewhere in nature, away from the chaos of cities, where I can help out, work and do whatever is needed for a few hours a day, while also having some time and space to work on my own projects.

I’m currently following several wildlife conservation projects, so having a quiet place surrounded by nature would be ideal for me: a place where I can contribute, learn, get my hands dirty, and at the same time have a little base from which to keep working on what I do. 🌿🏕️🦌

I’m not looking for a holiday, but rather for a place I can genuinely become part of for a while. 🙂
