  • Description

    Hello!
We are Simona and Sofia, an energetic, dynamic duo ready for adventure.
We are two Italian students of Japanese studies, and we fluently speak Japanese and English.
We both lived a year in Japan, working and studying in Tokyo, but we also had the chance to visit other parts of Japan and get the opportunity to deal with people from all over the world.
Since we are travel enthusiasts, we also visited other countries in Europe, such as the UK, Portugal, Spain, france, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Greece, and Turkey.
It's our first Workaway experience, but we are excited to start, and we are open to any kind of adventure. We are full of energy, curious, and easygoing, and we would love to know more about other cultures and learn new skills. We both have high communication skills due to our experience in customer service and theater.
Sofia worked as a kitchen and restaurant attendant both in Japan and in Italy. She also worked as an event organization helper, and she is currently taking a scholarship for a collaborative job at her home university at the Erasmus office. Simona worked as a hostess at the Noh theatre in Japan and is currently working at the student support service at her home university in Rome.
Also, we both worked as librarians, and we had the chance to teach about Japanese language and culture to high school students as an internship in Italy. While in Japan, we helped Japanese students studying Italian at our host universities. In addition, we both volunteered as exchange student support staff in our home university for the buddy program.
We are two artistic souls; Sofia in particular is really passionate about visual arts, and Simona is into performing arts, especially theatre related ones, as she took part in several European style theatre companies and she studied Kyogen (Japanese traditional comic theatre) in Japan and she is still keeping it in Italy. Overall, we are really creative and open to any kind of art; we are ready to challenge ourselves into new experiences!

More details about my language interests
Hi! I would love to keep practicing my English or/and Japanese because what's the point of learning a language if you don't use it to communicate, share thoughts, knowledge and feelings. I can teach you Italian if you're interested ;)

  • More details about your skills

Since I started university, I have had the opportunity to spend time with foreign students, not just as a tutor, but also as a guide. I really enjoyed showing them my country and my culture. Both in Italy and during my year in Japan, I found myself organizing Italian cooking classes (including home-made pasta etc.), teaching card games and being active in language sharing. Thanks to my university in Japan, I was also able to start a language café where I could teach the basics of Italian language and culture.

After spending years in drama clubs, I learned how to keep everyone in the mood and how to entertain people. Games, dancing, karaoke are things that bring people closer and make them have fun.

Planning is another one of my skills. I've been planning all my solo travels, but I've also been planning the travels I did with my friends. Detail and organization are something really important to me. There is n problem that cannot be solved. With creative thinking, it is always possible to find a solution.
