I'm interesting in learning new skills, opening my mind to new activities and ways of living, and most of all meeting people, learning about their lives and experiences, and exploring new places!

Description

Hi, I'm Sam! I decided October 2024, after considering it for a very long time, that I would finally follow my dreams to travel the world.

So I quit my job, applied for a New Zealand visa, booked a one way flight to South East Asia, and left Liverpool in February 2025. I spent 7 months travelling around Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia.

I loved meeting so many new people and having so many beautiful experiences with people from all around the world. I knew I'd made the right decision.

I loved Asia but I always knew that New Zealand was where I wanted to end up. The idea of exploring this incredible country and working in all manner of jobs and volunteer work really excited me. So I booked my flight from Hanoi and arrived into Auckland on 10th October 2025.

I want to make the most the opportunity I feel so lucky to have, so would love to try anything and everything along my journey! I'm so happy just to be here.

More details about my language interests
I have long wanted to learn another language. I studied French and German in high school but my education took a different direction. I have been out of the UK for 8 months and have loved picking up bits of language from the countries I have visited. I was learning French via Duolingo (700 day streak!) but found it didn't provide the education I found useful. I would love to meet people who speak a different language so we can help each other learn!

Team management - managed projects and personnel through a variety of short and long term projects

Project management + planning - involved in many projects pivotal to the success of both of my long term employers

Several years of bar/waitering experience, handling money/stock/deliveries.

Cooking - I love cooking and discovering different types of food and cuisines. Cooking with friends is always so fun!

General IT skills - Extensive use of Excel/Word/Powerpoint

I love swimming, running, hiking, going to the gym - though I need to get back to a routine...

I was travelling around South East Asia for the past 8 months and took up surfing and scuba diving while I was there. If there was a way to continue my journey with either of these I would be very happy. Or any activity that involved the ocean and sea life!

I am a big fan of Risk and Catan, and am totally up for learning new board games!

I love video games, especially with friends, and though I haven't managed to play much over the past 8 months I still keep an eye on any new games.

I'm a big fan of live music and festivals. At home I would go to a gig every week. I would love to work in this environment and help out where I can.
