Description
I am 28 years old and currently studying English literature in Zurich, Switzerland. I love travelling and adventures, animals, hiking, reading, poetry, painting, sewing, running and spending time in nature in general. I also love going to the cinema, theatre, museums and learning about all kinds of cultural topics.
Over the last 4 years I've fallen in love with long-distance hiking, which has brought me to the Kungsleden, West Highland Way, the GR54, Haute Route, Tour du Mont Blanc, the Hexatrek, the Swiss Via Alpina and the Padjelantaleden! So it's safe to say that I love nature, camping and being outdoors.
I am on workaway because I believe that travelling is best when you travel slowly, make connections with locals and also have the chance to give something back to the place you visit, instead of just 'consuming' tourist activities all the time. Also, I think it's a great opportunity to learn some new skills, experience different ways of life and get to know amazing and interesting people. I hope that I can also share some valuable skills or ideas with others, of course :)

I love learning new languages and would be especially interested in learning Swedish, and to refresh my French and Spanish, as they've gotten a bit rusty. Ever since I've studied in Scotland, I am interested in Gaelic so if someone could teach me about it, that would be much appreciated :) I am fluent in German and English and happy to teach anyone who's interested in learning. I also speak Swiss German and would love to share about it of course!

I have a lot of experience working in the gastronomy sector, I worked in cafés, in a bar and as a flight attendant.
I love photography, although I am not a professional photographer.
Since I am an English student, I also enjoy writing and could help with writing some texts if that would be needed (in English but also German).
I grew up with a dog, cats and a rabbit and I took horse riding classes as a kid (for about five years), so I love animals. In addition to that, I spent most summers on my grandparents little farm where they had chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese and sheep, so even though I am no expert in animal care or farming, I certainly am used to being around animals and helping to feed them, etc.
I know how to sew and enjoy cooking. I am also used to be around children, because I have a big family. Also, my godson was born a few months ago and I often play with him and watch him.
I am a fast learner and not afraid to get my hands dirty :)

This was my first Workaway experience and it was amazing! I stayed with Cora and Magnus for seven weeks in total over the summer. Before I arrived, Cora already informed me about what kind of tasks I could expect and asked me about my interests and work preferences. I would highly recommend to take your time and answer this question, because then… read more you can get tasks on the farm that you really enjoy and it will make your experience so much better. For example, I told her that I liked working with animals and that I like sewing; Therefore I was able to do a lot of animal related tasks and I sewed a new curtain for their house, which I loved!
In general, they are very nice and helpful. For example, when my phone broke, Cora lent me her old phone and Magnus even tried to fix mine. I also celebrated my birthday while I was there and we had a nice little celebration with homemade cake and everything, it was so lovely!!
The tasks were fun and there was always time to sit down for coffee, cuddling with the cats or have some free time. The only thing that could be quite exhausting was the hay making, however it was usually possible to take it a bit easier on the following day or to take breaks inbetween. It was also really cool to see how much hay was in the barn at the end and it gave me a feeling of accomplishment afterwards :) There are also a lot of other tasks that are not exhausting at all, such as berry picking, checking the sheep, household work, etc. So the hay making was more of an exception and not the standard.
The animals are amazing there. I spent a lot of time cuddling and playing with the cats, walking the dogs or the horses or just visiting the sheep and the rabbits. I was even able to take the dogs on hikes with me, which was a lot of fun. Going for a walk with a dog or a horse is also a great opportunity to explore the beautiful area surrounding the farm, so I would definitely recommend it.
Regarding the communication, I would say it was sometimes a bit confusing to me in the first week, f.e. because some of my tasks were a bit unclear to me. Therefore, I would recommend you to ask Cora whenever you have a question or you are not sure about one of your tasks. In the beginning it's easy to be a bit hesitant to ask questions, but there is no need to be at all! Cora was always happy to answer all the questions I had, so don't be shy.
Overall, I learned a lot during my stay here and had some amazing experiences. The area where they live is absolutely beautiful and you should not miss out on exploring it. During my time there I was able to disconnect from my student lifestyle in the city, which was a welcome change! The work always felt rewarding and purposeful :)
