I’m motivated by a life that blends freedom, purpose, and connection to the natural world. As a remote worker, I value the flexibility of location-independent work, but I’m not constantly on the move—I prefer staying in one place long enough to truly settle in, explore, and build meaningful routines. Nature plays a big role in my daily life, whether it’s by the sea, in the mountains, or surrounded by forest. Activities like jogging, cycling, and hiking—especially with friends—keep me grounded and energized.

What truly brings me happiness, though, is being around animals. I find a kind of genuine kindness and warmth in them that feels rare and deeply fulfilling. Making animals feel safe, cared for, and happy is something I naturally gravitate toward, and it’s a part of my life I’d love to integrate more into my work. Alongside this, I’m focused on personal growth and maintaining a healthy, vegetarian lifestyle that aligns with my needs. I feel most comfortable in calm, quieter environments. Coming from a place that is quite crowded and noisy, I really value locations that are more peaceful and not overly hectic. I’m open to both small towns and cities, as long as there’s a good balance—ideally not too remote, but also not too busy. Basic transport connections are absolutely fine for me.

I enjoy meaningful connections with people and prefer good conversations over activities like board games. For me, spending time together is more about sharing perspectives, stories, and experiences—everyone has something valuable to offer. I’m also drawn to music, especially local artists and bands, and I enjoy discovering new sounds and cultures that way.

I have been hosting for over five years and this is one of the few encounters that has been negative for me. It was Silvia's first time with Workaway. She knew from our exchanges (typed through the portal of this site) that I could not be available as I had broken my arm in the shoulder joint and was staying with someone who could look after me… read more and prepare my meals. I cannot drive. She was collected from the airport by a friend and taken food shopping directly (I paid for the food items totaling 90 euros, many of these specific to her dietary limitations.) Then she was taken to the house and introduced to the cats. My project is for sterilization of street cats in this region of a Mediterranean island. She was initially delighted by the cats' presences in the lounge and veranda but when she began putting her food items and clothing away she got upset. She began to message me that the house wasn't cleaned to her standards. She sent me 8 photos of various sweepings from the floor, a shelf within the refrigerator and dust on a sideboard, something like you would see in a "white glove" inspection. She was particularly upset about a dead fly and a dead cockroach. I do not have any kind of infestation but I do live in a Mediterranean climate where this is typical. We had an exchange by "text" and I offered to bring in a pest control company although I thought it unnecessary due to never seeing any alive roaches (have not seen, in the preceding 3 years!) Silvia was most insistent that I should have better prepared the space for her; I continued to explain that I had not been there in the last three weeks and that all preparations were done by others. I know with certainty that the bathroom fixtures, shower, bed, linens, kitchen worktops, floors, exterior entrance had all been prepared for her with the appropriate attention. Nonetheless Silvia escalated the matter to Workaway and left my home without apology within 24 hours of her airport arrival. I had offered to send a housecleaner to the address on the following day (in addition to the pest control agent) but she declined and left my 15 cats with no one to feed & tend them. Due to the fact that my project is chiefly TRAPPING cats for transport to the surgery, and this aspect of the role has been set aside until my arm is recovered, the maintenance of the home and the care and socialization of the cats already in my dwelling are the two aspects of my current needs which are most pressing. There was no "Language Barrier" as Silvia's proficiency in English is quite excellent. I find that she was expecting me to receive her as a "Guest" and not a participant to the running of a home. It did seem that she was incensed this occurred on a Sunday. She considered that nothing would be required of her so soon after landing nor on the weekend. Fair Enough. But as a host with a broken arm I found her response and reaction to be out of the norm from my typical encounters with workers of the past. I am left to wonder how she will meld with future "matches" on the site, Workaway.info.
