  • Description

We're Sara and Diego from Italy.
Finally, after more than two years we’re going back to travelling, we have missed it so much! Having no fixed plans and just being open to whatever adventure has in store for us is the feeling we seek. Sharing a meal with someone you just met, spending hours talking about life stories in front of a bonfire and all of a sudden ending up planning your next trip to a remote island you didn’t even know about. That is what we travel for. We do not care about running from one spot to another to complete the bucket list, we like to stop in places, explore them slowly, with respect, and learn from people how life can be lived in many different ways from what we’re used to.

We will travel around Central America for the next few months and we would love to get involved in opportunities that can allows us to give back to the communities that host us.
Helping out with environmental or sustainability projects, hospitality, schools, or simply supporting people with their personal projects or everyday activities. We would love to share experiences such as eco-tourism or conservation projects, farming, and pretty much anything related or close to the ocean! We’d also be very happy simply cooking together, exploring the area, and experiencing the real Caribbean life 😊

We’re both very outdoorsy people, we are not afraid to get our hands dirty and we’re always up for hands-on activities and practical work, especially if it involves learning something new! We are very keen to help out with maintenance activities such as painting, carpentry or gardening, and having a big garden at home, we know what we’re talking about! During previous volunteering experiences we did things like bamboo working, permaculture, and general maintenance of trails or properties with some small construction involved.

    DIEGO:
People tell me that I’m very good at organizing stuff and making people feel at ease and happy to spend time together. I have to admit that I’m really proud of this because I love seeing the people around me happy. But entertaining is not my only trait, I can also be serious 😉 I love organizing things, both parties and dinners or trips: I’m always the one making the grocery list for weekend getaways or making sure everyone has what they need for a hiking trip. I have a small Airbnb in the Dolomites and I just love taking care of the guests, showing them the beauty of our homeland, and making sure that everything is properly organized and taken care of during their stay.
In Italy I have a big vegetable garden, and for the past 15 years this has been the place where I spend most of my free time. I love preparing the soil and getting it ready for planting, growing seedlings and seeing the results of all the hard work. As an extra job, I also occasionally do gardening work, involving grass mowing, pruning, weeding, or general maintenance. I must admit that I really enjoy this kind of work!

SARA: I am very passionate about wildlife and I have a soft spot for cetaceans. I’ve just graduated in conservation biology and, I’m hoping to do my part in some conservation projects during this trip. One of the reasons we choose central America is because of its stunning nature and wildlife. I come with all the boring skills of a biologist, but even if it might not be the most practical skill set, if you’re into nature conservation and need some help in developing ideas, collecting data or maybe working on an outreach project I could be of use! I really enjoy photography as well and I’m constantly looking for opportunities to practice with my camera. For the past 3 years I have been helping out with a social media platform helping raising awareness about wildlife and poaching. So maybe your social media profile needs an extra hand?
During my studies, I’ve always worked in bars and restaurants, which has made me very open, easy-going, and comfortable around people. I’m used to working as part of a team, especially when things get busy and I’m quite good at noticing the little things that need to be done before someone asks.

  • What else ...

We were both born in the Italian Alps, we love going for long hikes and sleeping under the stars, but we can’t resist the call of the ocean!
We love activities that allow us to be in contact with the water. We’re getting our scuba diving certifications, we’re planning to hit some surfing spots along the way and spend as much time as possible snorkelling, and exploring the coast. Basically, if it involves the ocean, we’re probably up for it!

    DIEGO:
I love riding bicycles, I feel grateful when the fatigue is rewarded by a stunning landscape. Back home I volunteer in an amateur cycling team with more than 70 members. I love cooking for my friends and family, especially using fresh food from my garden, and trying different recipes. My real passion, though, is sharing and exchanging vegetables with the older people in my neighbourhood, while learning from them the old secrets and traditions of growing food.

SARA: Other than animals I love doing creative projects, crocheting, beads, painting and I would really love to get some carpentry skills and being able to create my own furniture. Recently I got into sailing, and it’s not even needed mentioning that one of my biggest dreams is to go for a longer sailing trip and add more miles to my sailing logbook. I volunteer in a sailing club where I have the chance to learn all the tricks of the trade from experienced sailors and get some practice handling motorboats as well.

We both don’t like tourist-tailored destinations, and we would prefer to stay away from very crowded places and really take the time to understand the character and soul of a place.
