  • Description

I've just left my job with a landscaping company and I'm looking to move out to the countryside. It's my dream to live off-grid, so I am looking for experience in the appropriate areas: maintaining a vegetable patch, husbandry, carpentry and land maintenance to name a few. I have a bit of experience already but am looking to expand my skill set. I am a hard worker and am eager to learn, I'm not afraid to get stuck in! I've a commercial licence to fell trees with a chainsaw and I'd like to go on to get my aerial access certificate and work as a tree surgeon.

I have a degree in maths, which I chose out of interest in the subject. However, in my final year I was overcome by listlessness and lack of purpose. I became addicted to my phone and developed a whole host of other bad habits, from excessive screen time to binge eating. My dream is to live somewhere I don't require a phone and the temptations of fast-food aren't on my doorstep. I daydream of reclaiming the focus I once had, I daydream of spending my days working to support myself and my community (i.e. farming and ground/land maintenance), and I daydream of spending my evenings reading and practicing my guitar, free from the aforementioned distractions.
Speaking of guitar, I'm big into my music. My favourite artist is probably Bill Evans, but my most listened to album this past year was For Django by Joe Pass. I mostly listen to jazz, but I'm a big fan of funk, soul, blues, bossa nova, all that good stuff. Another favourite of mine is Ton Koopman's performances of Bach on the organ, that stuff soothes my soul. Growing up I listened to a lot of The Beatles, The Arctic Monkeys, The Fratellis, The Strokes, Jack Johnson, more sing-along friendly stuff. I'm a big fan of a campfire sing-along and have a fairly broad repertoire for that - my go to's are Rocky Racoon, Lonely Boy, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Ooh La La to name a few.
