Hi, I'm Ryan, thanks for checking my profile!
I'm 24 and from the fields and trees of rural Ireland. By trade, I am self-employed, working with corporate folks to be better communicators and relationship-builders; by nature, I'm a musician, a language-learner, a lover of the outdoors and animals, and a reader, among other things.
I enjoy experimenting, tinkering and trying new things; with recipes, with music, and more recently with my hands (in particular with wood). This is why I've come to WorkAway, for the social and the cultural exchange, and hopefully for the opportunity to learn and work with my hands (wood, stone, DIY, or anything outdoors).
I've done a bit of woodwork with hand tools and electric tools (manual saws, circular and mitre saws, jigsaw, drills, multitool, planer) and some wood carving. I've done some basic timber framing, insulation work and helped build an outdoor shower. And some other bits and bobs like for example, planting in a polytunnel, laying floors, painting.
Depending on the skill-level of the work, I will appreciate some guidance at times but will be happy to work independently or as part of a team once the process is clear. I also enjoy the "figuring out" process.
On the social side, I'm looking forward to exchanging about your culture and language, and sharing my own; share interesting conversations; as well as sharing meals and experiences, especially outdoors!Interests

Learning languages has been a tool to build understanding, relationships and new opportunities for me. So I'm always happy to impart some of the languages I know, and learn about the languages of those I meet, regardless of where they're from. I also have some experience teaching English as a foreign language. And have a lot of love for the language of my native land, Irish.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

More details about your skills
I'm a quick learner and have some basic skills in most areas - wood, building, painting, gardening, animal care, engaging with kids, etc.
I strive to be organised, tidy and respectful of people's space, while also happy to make my own contributions when appropriate - cooking, conversation, musical, humour!
On the professional side, I run my business marketing through social media, so I'm fairly competent with that. A big focus of mine is communication skills and soft skills, which tends to reflect in my personal relationships.
Also happy to impart music or language skills. I play classical and basic jazz piano, some guitar, didjeridoo, and tinker with other instruments. My first language is English, and I'm reasonably fluent in French and Irish, and have a basic level in Spanish and Italian. I'm always trying my hand at languages so happy to learn more here!Age

What else ...
I'll use this space to add in a few miscellaneous interests or anecdotes.
- Very fond of long walks with the dog, sometimes into the trees (background of my profile photo!) or fields or through rivers.
- I'm into meditation, yoga, tai chi and have maintained a daily stretch routine for years
- I don't travel too far without a book. Often something with a philosophical, psychology or spiritual undertone, sometimes poetry, short stories or existentialist novels.
- I often wear a Celtic "eternity knot" pendant that I hand-carved from willow branch.
- I often travel with a "Diary of a Stranger" journal in which I collect fragments of people's stories
- One of my more humorous piano recitals was a four-man performance on one piano. To our surprise, it went well!
- Hands-on uncle of two little Aussies. Regularly looking for ways to keep in touch from around the world. A couple of favourites are "around the world hide-and-seek" and writing them stories. Some more information

Special dietary requirements
I tend to avoid milk, cheese, butter (especially pasteurised), and most meats with the exception of fish. But this isn't set in stone and I'm willing to be flexible.

I spent 3 weeks there at the end of Summer, and unfortunately just missed the Mossarun!
There's a relaxed and flexible atmosphere. I often found myself working more than intended because I was learning (one valuable takeaway was to learn to take feedback on the chin, haha),… read more
