Hi! My name is Rachel and I'm very excited to have found workaway. I hope that this leads to lasting connections and fruitful cultural exchange.
Currently, I am a contract special education teacher in San Francisco, CA. I love nature, animals and to be in service to further kindness in this world.
A bit about me, I grew up on a small farm in rural Arkansas, US. In my early 20s, I moved to the USVI (St. Croix) and fell in love with diving, sailing and travel. Last 4 years I've lived in Florence, Italy where I studied and taught art (comics, painting and printmaking) and learned the simplicity of Italian cuisine. I have a BS in Biochem and a MFA in Studio Art. I have worked all sorts of jobs over the years from chef, cake decorator, nurse, chemist, marketer for an NGO, teacher, bartender, life guard and more. I also play a bunch of instruments poorly but I like to sing well and write fun songs. I have experience in animation, performance and recording. I would say I'm easy going, positive and a hard worker, who catches on quickly and enjoys learning new skills.

I grew up on a small farm- good at gardening, canning, putting up food, also I'm a frugal chef who can make tasty healthy food for an army on a budget. I also worked for 5 yrs as a cake decorator and pastry chef. I have an MFA in Studio Art and have taught printmaking, painting and comics to kids and college level in Florence, Italy and the US. I am a fine artist but I have also done detailed signs, murals and all types of crafts. As well as house and boat painting. I also play music, write songs, sing and perform. I love making costumes, installations and proficient in Adobe suites.
I have a BS in Biochem and worked as a chemist for years but more useful here I have tutored all levels of math and science. I have taken care of all the cute and rowdy house pets and farm animals. I love moody old cranky cats the most, oh or sweet docile senior big dogs. I have regular pet sitting clients and I have experience babysitting as well but furkids are way more enjoyable. I am mechanically minded and good at fixing things and I have experience in marketing and account management. I am passionate about sustainability, sourcing locally and conservation. I have been a diver for 20 years and would love to help with reef restoration. I have some sailing experience but its rusty. I love to learn new things and catch on quickly.

I enjoy good conversation about global issues as much as quietly reading a book under a tree. I love being around pets- house and farm, it is a joy to learn their personalities and they give soul to any space. I like to be in nature. I value education and I am a life long learner, I enjoy being around people who are passionate yet light hearted. I enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking and diving. I teach plein air painting and almost always have a sketchbook and/or painting kit on me. I also love to build art installations and create comics.
