Welcome!
My name is Amber and I am a young woman from the sunny island of Malta! A doctor by profession, I have decided to take a short break from the intense routine of hospital life and finally living my dream of traveling full-time and seeing the world!

After working full-time as a doctor over the past 2 years, my job has made me deeply passionate about people and I look to travel to see the world from the lens of the people that inhabit it. Workaway has given me the beautiful experience of being able to experience life from a new perspective and I now fully believe there is no better way to travel! On top of this I would love to use the skills I have gained from my job to be able to do good for people all over the world.

Aside from the above, I also have a deep appreciation for visual arts, hand-crafts and photography and food! I have produced photographic work independently for a number of small events and private clients over the years, and as an avid sewist and knitter I have developed a deep appreciation for traditional hand-crafting (with a special interest in yarn). I also hold a deep love for food and the way that it connects people all over the world, and hope to learn more recipes and techniques along my travels as well as gardening techniques and I have a big interest in learning to grow my own food. I also love running and adventure sports such as skiing and surfing (though I definitely need a lot more practice!)

I also have 10 years of pet-sitting experience for a number of families and have experience with dogs and cats alike.

I'm a fast learner and I find great joy in learning new skills and having new experiences, so whatever I can do to help around I would be more than happy to do!

Being a doctor, I have an in-depth knowledge of medicine, including first-aid and emergency care, as well as a deep personal interest in global health including indigenous and women's health and the impact of climate change on the health of various marginalised communities.

My main part-time work while here at home while going through my university years was that of a pet/house-sitter, having been left responsible for a number of homes and building a good relationship with my regular clients and their furry kids! I have experience with dogs, cats and different kinds of rodents and feel confident in the company of all different kinds of animals including farm animals such as horses and cows thanks to farm-hand experience. I also have experience working in food and beverage services and worked as a barista in specialty coffee shops.

I love to cook and am a big fan of making my own staples from scratch; especially breads, jams and alternative milks. I am passionate about healthy and wholesome food and the way in which it brings people together and love to cook for people and learn new recipes and techniques. I would be happy to teach Maltese/Mediterranean cooking techniques and want to learn more about different recipes from all around the world (with a love for South and East Asian food in particular)

I have a deep love for the visual arts, especially literature, photography, painting and hand-crafts so I would be very happy to take on any new opportunities in those fields to provide a creative touch to projects. In this regard I also love to work with my hands so am happy to do any kind of hands on work or project.
