. A Citizen of the World | Sharing Stories, Culture, Cooking & Kindness
    A Little About Me

Hello! I’m Priti, a fiercely independent solo traveler with a compassionate heart and an enduring curiosity about the world and its people.

Since 2014, I have been living a life less ordinary. I left my career as a social worker, sold my home, gave away most of my belongings, and chose freedom over possessions. What began as a leap into the unknown has become a way of life. For more than a decade, I have traveled the world independently, learning to embrace different cultures, adapt to unfamiliar surroundings, and appreciate the beauty of life’s simplest pleasures.

Living with less has taught me that we often gain so much more. I have discovered that happiness isn’t necessarily found in the things we own, but in the experiences we collect, the people we meet, the kindness we share, and the memories we create. Today, I feel less tied to any one place and more like a citizen of the world.

Before embarking on this journey, I worked as a social worker, a profession that strengthened my belief in the importance of compassion, understanding, and human connection. I believe everyone has something valuable to offer, regardless of age, background, or where they come from. I’m passionate about encouraging people, especially women, to trust their own strengths, embrace change, and have the courage to follow their hearts. Life doesn’t always go according to plan, but even our unexpected detours can teach us something meaningful.
I first joined Workaway in 2016 and renewed my membership in 2021. During those years, I had the opportunity to volunteer in Europe, including Poland and Italy, as well as in Japan. Those experiences gave me a deeper appreciation for cultural exchange and the special connections that can develop when people from different parts of the world share their everyday lives.

After a break from Workaway, I’m excited to return and discover new opportunities to learn, contribute, and connect.

For me, volunteering is about much more than helping with a project or completing a task. It’s an opportunity to step beyond the usual tourist experience, become part of a community, learn how people live, and exchange ideas, traditions, stories, and laughter. I love experiencing a place from the inside rather than simply passing through it.
I’m happy to contribute wherever my skills and experience might be useful. I can help with English conversation and informal language practice, share stories and perspectives from my years of independent travel, and lend a hand with everyday household tasks.

I particularly enjoy cooking and would love to share recipes from my own background while learning to prepare local dishes. I believe a kitchen is one of the best places for cultural exchange. There is something wonderful about people coming together over a home-cooked meal, sharing food, stories, and a little bit of their worlds.

I’m adaptable, considerate, independent, and comfortable in new environments. My years of travel have taught me to respect different ways of doing things, appreciate the routines of a household, and approach unfamiliar situations with an open mind. I understand that being a good volunteer means being reliable, communicating openly, respecting boundaries, and contributing with a willing attitude.

I’m not afraid of getting my hands dirty, and I’m happy to learn new skills. I also appreciate that every host and every household is different, and I would always want to understand your expectations and find a good fit for everyone.
My philosophy is simple: simple living, high thinking, an open heart, and a willingness to keep learning. I don’t believe life has to follow a prescribed path, and I hope my own journey is a reminder that it is never too late to begin again, step outside your comfort zone, or create a life that feels true to you.
I’m looking forward to meeting hosts who value mutual respect, genuine cultural exchange, and the joy of sharing everyday life. If I can contribute something useful to your home or project while learning from you and your community, that would make the experience worthwhile for all of us.
Perhaps we will share a meal, exchange stories, learn something new from each other, and part ways with a little more understanding of the world.
I look forward to meeting you
