  • Description

    Hi,

My name is Pedro, I´m 31yo from a small city in the northeast part of Portugal :)

I'm living in Denmark for 1year now and aim to settle my life here for the years to come.
I have been developing my interest in living in Denmark for a long time, based on what I have experienced and read about the country – its society values, education system, sustainability awareness, the importance of the relationship work/personal life and flat hierarchy.

I've plans to start an education program in social management and as pedagogue assistant for kindergarten.

I take pleasure in cooking, playing board games or sports, music, cleaning, socializing and caring for others.
I currently participate in volunteer organizations such as "International Family" where we organize events for internationals that range from activities to food social gatherings.
Furthermore I took the initiative to create an informal discussing group called "Sustainable Today" to share experiences and ideas about day-to-day sustainable actions, this takes place at the Ungdomshuset (youth house) but it's open to all ages.

In my spare time I love attending and be involved with cultural events, arts, teather, music. Although I haven't master any skills in this, it's an important enrich piece in my life. I'm trying though to learn music, still at beginner stage.

Currently I'm focus on attending official Danish classes to continue to integrate and participate more in the community and in the future to increase my opportunities in the job market after concluding my studies.

In the past I´ve finished my studies in agriculture engineer then worked and lived in a pomegranate farm for 1year in south Portugal as part of my professional internship.

[2018] Drove across Europe to spend the summer working in Denmark (gardening and delivering newspapers) and in Sweden on a campsite (preparing and serving breakfast, working as an assistant cook and bartending).

[2019] First workaway experience, travelled to Germany where I worked in a Bed&Breakfast.
After that went to Ireland where I worked on a dairy farm and stayed with an Irish family in the rural area.
Went to England and worked in strawberry farm which had a pick your own scheme and a coffee place .
Between December and January worked in a restaurant and minimarket in a small village (200people) in the Italian Alpes.

[2020] I went back to the Ireland dairy farm where I stayed for a few weeks before the Covid situation made me change my plans.
Went back to Portugal to be close to family. Worked on a farm with sheep and dogs. In September I went to work in Iceland on a dairy farm.

Mid-October 2020 started working in the UK as a personal assistant/carer for a young man at his family home.
[2021-2022] Continued my work as a personal assistant/carer assuming the role of supervising and training a team of carers and as a co-ordinator. Accompanying the young man back to his independent life in a new city when he went back to studies at the University after Covid.

Summer of 2022 decided to settle my life in a place and personally choose Denmark for it's society values.
[2022-2023] Moved to Denmark, first using workaway to adapt and know more about the culture. Then settle down in Odense where I live in my own apartment, take Danish language classes, hold a temporary job in the hospitality sector and got integrated in the community.

Although I have studied agriculture I find that I have more interest and better skills in the care sector, hospitality/gastronomy, management, cultural events, fields that require attention to details and a sense of care for others.
