We’re Nicole and Duarte, a couple from the UK and Portugal, eager to travel together and create meaningful experiences through Workaway.

I (Nicole) have gained several years of work exchange experience after solo travelling throughout Europe and Asia and spending a transformative year in Japan. As someone who thrives in learning environments, I was instantly inspired upon discovering this community. The chance to contribute to such a diverse array of projects — from language exchange and hospitality to renovation and farmwork — is an opportunity I truly revel in.

Duarte is newer to Workaway but shares the same passion for exploration and growth. He possesses a wealth of experience in various industries and a unique skill set that complements my own, making us a versatile and dynamic team ready to take on any challenge.

Between us, we have a diverse set of skills that we believe make us a versatile and well-balanced team. Being TEFL-qualified with experience tutoring English, I’ve developed a love for teaching and supporting others in their learning. I’ve also worked as a freelance writer, editor, and copywriter, which has helped me hone my creativity and eye for detail. My background in customer-facing roles across hospitality, retail, and entertainment has made me adaptable and confident in a variety of settings, while growing up on a smallholding gave me hands-on experience caring for animals.

Duarte, on the other hand, brings a more practical and hands-on approach. He has experience in carpentry, masonry, and property maintenance, having built staircases, worked on roof structures, and managed irrigation systems. He’s also skilled in landscaping, tree planting, and eco-projects like river cleaning. Plus, years of working in his family's bar have given him skills in cooking, barista work, and hospitality.
