  • Description

    Hello Workaway hosts!

My name is Niamh, and I'm a 27 year old Yorkshire lass from Leeds in the UK. Funnily enough, I'm a backpackers baby (my Austrian mum and Irish dad met in Sydney, Australia while on their working holiday visas!) so it's fair to say that the travel bug is embedded at a genetic level at this point!

I've solo travelled since I was 18 years old, with my first solo travel trip taking place in Thailand - something about the depth of connection, community and awakening that happens when you step outside of your comfort zone really stuck with me and since then I've travelled to over 20 countries solo.

Beyond being an all around lovely person, with a legend sense of humour.. I do actually have some skills to share! My professional background is centred around non-profit work and the volunteering sector. I've worked in many professions in the charity and NGO sector from volunteer, project and event management in various grassroots charities (I've worked in climate awareness, youth empowerment and a charity specialising in developing campaigns on a range of topics!) I have a talent for community building & coordinating, but I can also help with the more tangible things like social media, marketing, photography. The highlight of my career so far was when I was invited to the UN to give a talk on how we can empower more young people to get involved with accelerating the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. That was pretty awesome. :)

Having spent so much time in the world of advocacy and social change, it became pretty apparent to me that if we're going to attempt to resolve the deeply routed challenges of our world, we need to approach this through a holistic lens. This year, I quit my job to embark on a journey of deepening my spiritual practice, with the hope to help others find peace, embodiment and healing in our chaotic world. Growing up in a buddhist household, I've always had a deep connection to the power of spirituality to transform and transcend and I'm super curious to see how I can share my skills of yoga, mindfulness and embodiment with any workaway projects! I'm now a 200 hour certified yoga teacher trainer and can't wait to share some practices with you all.

Last of all, I'm a qualified TEFL teacher and have bundles of experiences working in youth charities - I'm a strong believer in equipping and empowering our next generation to be thriving little leaders.

    Where to start!

I have extensive experience in the UK charity sector in project management, events coordination and volunteer management. I work with a huge network of UK charities so I can totally empathise with the challenges of operating a volunteer-led service!

Alongside my professional skills, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, I'm keen to help out with environmental projects (farming) and working and empowering youth communities.

  • What else ...

My favourite thing about travel is to learn about other people's lives, cultures and values. My favourite thing to do is to sit down and talk about anything with anyone. I love to talk about almost anything! Hiking, Adventures, history & culture, psychology, spirituality and politics!
