  • Description

I'm a reformed office-job workaholic, aging backwards in the "sensible" life choices department. From Sep 2022-June 2023 I was on sabbatical traveling Europe in my van and doing the occasional workaway. While in Italy I met my partner, Karo, so now we travel together.

We're on the Dingle Peninsula right now. Shortly we'll be looking for our next wonderful place to learn, work, explore and enjoy this beautiful country.

    Who I am
Adventure-lover, Enthusiastic - Try and tire me out. I dare you.
Empathetic - I want a workaway arrangement to work really well for all involved
Perfectly happy in quietness and solitude - I need space away from people often
Joined at the hip with my dogs (Otto and Pepper)

  • More details about your skills

Basic DIY and Gardening: Back home I have pretty large tool collection. I like to try and do it myself if I can. In the last 12 months I... laid a patio, built an aviary, dug vegetable beds, helped to maintain a permaculture garden, cleared overgrown land and helped with the olive harvest in Italy

Outdoorsmanship: I hike, pack-raft (also kayak, paddleboard), ride, camp, swim, climb etc.
Foraging is a big love, so we eat a lot of wild food

Domestic and wild animal care / husbandry: I volunteered for several years at a wildlife sanctuary so I have pretty niche skills like tube-feeding juvenile pigeons and cleaning pens while avoiding sharp teeth / claws. I've also been responsible for horses, donkeys, sheep and all manner of small pets. I like animals, they seem to like me

Creativity: I love to draw / watercolour / build things with a little problem-solving. My little campervan was a labour of love which demanded I learn a bit of woodworking and basic electrical (12v)

*Skills I am most interested in developing, in no particular order:*
    Climbing (lead, qualifications)
    Navigation, mountaineering, leading groups
    Wood-working
    Construction, DIY, reviving old properties
    Land management
    Stock management, farming
    Self-sufficiency
Growing and raising food, permaculture (and similar)
    Cultivating mushrooms / Mycology
    Fishing, hunting (responsibly, for food)
Horse-riding (no particular interest in a discipline - although trekking / long-distance more than others)
Vehicle mechanics (e.g. I want to be able to service our vans and speak intelligently to our mechanics!)

  • What else ...

Here's some things about the dogs:

Otto: Where he goes, I go. He's my old boy.
Otto doesn't bark, gets along with other dogs and animals, is obedient and is the dog that people tend to like even when they don't like dogs

Pepper: Gorgeous soul, but needs a quiet life which we are lucky enough to be able to give him. He's a recent rescue and is terrified of men (most, not all). It's unlikely you'll see much of him as between walks, runs and adventures he is most happy chilling out in the van
