Description

Hello. I'm Bertha Mumba, 27 years old, originally from Zambia. I’m currently doing a Master’s in Nuclear Engineering through the Erasmus Mundus Programme, which has me living and studying in both France and Spain. It’s been an amazing experience so far.

I love meeting new people, learning languages, and discovering different cultures, whether through food, conversation, or simply sharing everyday life. I’d describe myself as open-minded, easy-going, and always up for trying something new or helping out where I can.

Most of my travels have been through academic programmes like conferences, summer schools, and fellowships. I’ve had the chance to visit places like San Francisco, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Egypt, and South Africa. I also lived in Russia for five years during my undergrad, this gave me a wonderful experience to meet people from different countries. But lately, I’ve started travelling just for myself, my first solo trip was to Lisbon during the Easter holidays, and now I’m excited to explore more and make meaningful connections along the way.

I speak English fluently, a bit of Russian from my uni days, and I’m currently learning Korean (since 2021 lol, not getting anywhere) Spanish and French. One of my personal goals this year is to read at least five books, which is a big deal for me because I’ve never really been a book person, I’ve finished two so far, and I’m quite proud of that. I’m also working on living a more active lifestyle. I genuinely enjoy walking and was going to the gym regularly before exam season. I’m hoping to get back to it soon.

I love music and usually have something playing in the background. I don’t stick to one genre, what I listen to depends on my mood, but I enjoy everything from Afrobeats and gospel to pop, K-pop, and lo-fi. I’m also a big foodie. I love trying new dishes, though I tend to avoid recipes that are too complicated. If it’s tasty and easy, I’m in. I watch Youtube and Tiktok more than netflix lol.

I’m looking forward to meeting kind and welcoming people, learning through experience, and contributing however I can, whether that’s helping with language practice, doing chores, sharing stories, or just bringing positive energy into your space.

I’m a practical and adaptable person, happy to help with a range of tasks like gardening, light maintenance, organising, and household chores. I enjoy being hands-on and learning by doing. While I don’t have experience with dogs and would prefer not to be involved in dogs care but I would love to learn cats care. I’m very open to helping out in other areas where an extra pair of hands is needed. I’m respectful, easy-going, and always willing to try something new.

What else ...

In my free time, I love taking long walks and recently got into fitness, so anything active or outdoorsy really excites me. I’m a big fan of music too , from African beats to K-pop, Pop, and Gospel , there’s always a song playing in the background. I also absolutely LOVE board games: Uno, Scrabble, 30 Seconds, quizzes, charades, card games… you name it, I’m in. I’m quick to learn new games too, so I’m always ready for some friendly competition.

I watch a lot of random YouTube videos, especially documentaries and interesting deep-dives into everyday topics. I’ve also gotten into audiobooks recently , they make the perfect background audio while working , and I’ve slowly developed a love for reading too. I’m always open to trying out new hobbies and learning from others. Whether it’s a chill evening indoors or something more active, I’m happy to join in and be part of the vibe. I also enjoy talking about latest tech etc.
