Hi there!

I am Mari from the Netherlands.
I studied biology at Wageningen University & Research and have traveled to Madagascar, Spain and Ecuador to do volunteer work for a couple of months at a time. I met amazing people, lived more off grid in beautiful nature and helped out with many different things like agroforestry, research, teaching English, eco-construction, gardening, translating tours, and more. I also got my diving certificate, which amplified my love for the ocean and marine life. I connected with who I am and who I want to be.

This all lead me to my travels now, as I started traveling through South America

These experiences made my urge to give my contribution and help out even bigger. I really want to give back to the communities and nature I interact with. I am eager to explore new perspectives and gain an understanding of everything and everyone around me. I am driven by a desire to learn. My main interests are nature, biology, ecology, wildlife, biodiversity, taxonomy and conservation. I have some skills and knowledge in these fields that I acquired during my study and travels, but am excited to learn so much more! I am also interested in learning about social aspects such as different cultures, religions, languages, activities and music.

Staying busy and working hard, brings me energy. When committing to something, it gets my full dedication. I love helping out, any way I can. I'm easy going by nature and make friends and connections easily. I have a lot of energy and positivity to share with others. As a kind and positive person, I think it is important to make others smile and feel at ease. Whether it is offering a hug, some advice or simply being a listening ear; I’m always there to support others. I really value respect and kindness towards everything and everyone around me.

Some things that bring me joy include being in and learning about nature and taking care of animals and plants. I really enjoy going on hikes and exploring new places. Spending my time with others, also makes me happy. I love playing (card) games and sharing activities together. Additionally, spending my time listening to music, reading, making different types of crafts (right now artesenias) and researching topics gives me energy.

Soy Mari, de Holanda.
Estudié biología en Wageningen University & Research y he viajado a Madagascar, España y Ecuador para hacer voluntariado durante algunas meses cada lugar. Conocí gente increíble, viví más off-grid, en la naturaleza muy hermosa y ayudé en diversas áreas, como agroforestería, investigación, enseñanza de inglés, ecoconstrucción, jardinería, traducción de tours, pintura y más.
También obtuve mi certificado de buceo, lo que amplió mi amor por el océano y la vida marina. Conecté con quien soy y con quien quiero ser.
Todo esto me llevó a mi viaje ahora, ya que comencé a recorrer la hermosa Sudamérica.

Estas experiencias aumentaron aún más mi deseo de contribuir y ayudar. Realmente quiero retribuir a las comunidades y a la naturaleza con la que interactúo. Tengo muchas ganas de explorar nuevas perspectivas y comprender todo y a todos los que me rodean. Me motiva el deseo de aprender. Mis principales intereses son la naturaleza, la biología, la ecología, la vida silvestre, la biodiversidad, la taxonomía y la conservación. Adquirí algunas habilidades y conocimientos en estos campos durante mis estudios y viajes, ¡pero me entusiasma aprender mucho más! También me interesa aprender sobre aspectos sociales como diferentes culturas, religiones, idiomas, actividades y música.

Mantenerme ocupada y trabajar duro me llena de energía. Cuando me comprometo con algo, me dedico por completo. Me encanta ayudar en todo lo que puedo. Soy tranquila por naturaleza y hago amigos y conecto fácilmente. Tengo mucha energía y positividad para compartir con los demás. Como persona amable y positiva, creo que es importante hacer sonreír a los demás y que se sientan cómodos. Ya sea ofreciendo un abrazo, un consejo o simplemente escuchando, siempre estoy ahí para apoyarlos. Valoro mucho el respeto y la amabilidad hacia todo y todos los que me rodean.

Algunas cosas que me alegran son estar en la naturaleza y aprender sobre ella, y cuidar de los animales y las plantas. Disfruto mucho haciendo senderismo y explorando nuevos lugares. Pasar tiempo con los demás también me hace feliz. Me encanta jugar a las cartas y compartir actividades. Además, pasar mi tiempo escuchando música, leyendo, haciendo diferentes tipos de manualidades (ahora mismo, artesanías) e investigando sobre temas me llena de energía.

More details about my language interests
I would love to improve my Spanish, French and German!! But I would also love to learn other languages, like I have been learning a little bit of Malagasy. I have some experience with teaching English during my volunteer work in Madagascar and would like to teach English and/or Dutch.

I have some experience with eco-construction, different methods of planting, and different gardening and reusing skills. I have a driver's license and an open water diving certificate. I studied biology and finished my first year cum laude. I'm a curious person and I'm eager to learn and improve. I'm analytical and a fast learner. Besides that I'm a really dedicated person. When I start or do something, I go all the way. On top of that; I really like a challenge. I also value honesty and communication, so I am open to criticism and improvements and will ask questions where I need. I've had different jobs; in cafés, a chocolate shop, and restaurant in a zoo, but I also volunteered and worked at a pet boarding house with dogs and cats. I'm a responsible person and love taking care of animals! I also have a dog (and now a puppy), a turtle and chickens at home. We also have a garden that I love to work in. Besides that, I learnt and experienced many things volunteering and travelling. I helped with research on animals, was involved in a project researching fish of the Amazonian rivers (Fishipedia), helped with construction and work in plant nursery, helped with agroforestry and I taught some English to adults and kids.

Tengo algun experiencia en ecoconstrucción, diferentes métodos de plantación y diversas técnicas de jardinería y reutilización.
Tengo licencia de conducir carros y un certificado de buceo en aguas abiertas. Estudié biología y terminé mi primer año con honores. Soy una persona curiosa y con muchas ganas de aprender y mejorar. Soy analítica y aprendo rápido. Además, soy muy dedicada. Cuando empiezo o hago algo, lo doy todo. Además, me gustan mucho los desafíos. También valoro la honestidad y la comunicación, por lo que estoy abierta a las críticas y a las mejoras, y haré preguntas cuando sea necesario. He tenido diferentes trabajos: en cafeterías, en una chocolatería y en un restaurante de un zoológico, pero también fui voluntaria y trabajando en una residencia de mascotas con perros y gatos. Soy responsable y me encanta cuidar animales. También tengo un perro, una tortuga y gallinas en casa. Tenemos un jardín en el que me encanta trabajar. Además, aprendí y experimenté muchas cosas haciendo voluntariado y viajando. Ayudé con la investigación sobre animales, participé en un proyecto de investigación de peces de los ríos amazónicos (Fishipedia), ayudé con la construcción y trabajé en un vivero de plantas, ayudé con la agroforestería y enseñé algo de inglés a adultos y niños.
