Hi, I'm Mare!

I'm 26 years old and have been living and studying Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology in Göttingen, Germany, for the past six years. After some intense years of studying, I’m now excited to finally use my semester break to travel again, slow down a bit, and meet new people and places through Workaway.

I’m happy to help wherever I can and always eager to learn new things. I'm a big nature lover and feel most at home outdoors – whether it's in the forest, up in the mountains, or by the sea. Festivals are a huge passion of mine: I’ve been volunteering at them for years and also enjoy supporting local social and cultural projects.

I really value honest and open communication. I’d describe myself as someone who can be both very introverted and very outgoing – I love being around people, but I also need some time for myself to recharge. That balance is important to me.

I’m super curious, hands-on, and always happy to pick up new skills. I’m looking forward to spending this break doing something meaningful, learning from others, and contributing wherever I can before I finish my studies.

I'm a fast learner, open to new things, and not afraid to get my hands dirty. Over the years, I've worked in all kinds of jobs – clothing stores, a pharmacy as a COVID tester, weekly markets, a hospital, a climbing park (ticket desk, gear handout, guiding kids), in kitchens, at food and info stands during festivals and public events, and more. I’ve also been volunteering at festivals for years, helping out wherever needed, and I organize cultural events in my student residence.

I regularly go on walks with an elderly man as a volunteer, helped an older couple with garden work (like mowing the lawn) for several years, and occasionally do dog sitting and dog walking.

Through previous Workaways, I’ve done childcare, helped with repairs on the facade of an old mill, taken care of animals on a small farm (horses, chickens, cats, dogs), created a wildflower meadow for bees, and cooked for theater workshops. I also did a three-month internship with a forester and have a chainsaw license – so I’m not just comfortable in nature, I actually enjoy working outdoors and learning new practical skills.

All in all, I'm super adaptable, curious, hands-on, and happy to help wherever help is needed!
