Hello! I‘m Amaria. I’m a hardworking, adaptable person looking for opportunities where I can contribute and be useful.

I have spent most of my working life in fast-paced environments where I had to learn quickly and stay agile on my feet. I’m a very fast learner, and when I am new to something, I tend to ask a lot if questions for the first few days. Its important to me to understand how things work so I can ensure I am doing everything properly.

I have experience with, but not limited to:

- Horticulture/greenhouse cultivation

One of my biggest natural strengths is my green thumb. I have been growing plants my whole life. I enjoy this kind of work and would be happy to help with gardens, greenhouses, planting, maintenance or just general plant care.

I am looking for real work, experiences and opportunities to learn more! :)

I am pretty easy going outside of work. I love to learn, and another one of my big interest is marine biology. I appreciate direct communication and mutual respect. I am comfortable keeping myself busy and giving people their own space.

I am sad to write this. My experience at this workaway was extremely negative. The listing describes it as a peaceful retreat with a five hour workday, food provided, and opportunities to learn about gardening and herbalism. Labor intensive … read more task were repeatedly assigned unrealistic time frames, followed by criticism when i couldn't complete them quickly enough. For example, I was expected to clear extensive overgrowth from a large greenhouse/Hightower in under an hour, alongside other demanding task such as cutting and juicing more than 60 limes and emptying a large bucket of tofu whey..

My issue was never the work itself; this is not my first time volunteering or doing traditional physical labor, but the expectations and the way I was treated when I couldn't meet them.

The food situation also differed from what i expected. Although the listing describes staples being available, I found the refrigerator largely filled with food I understood was not available to me. I was instead offered leftovers that I found unappetizing and couldn't always identify. In fact, host was concerned that perhaps my illness came from what I had been eating during my stay. The daily routine had a schedule; work, spiritual reading and discussions, and more work, leaving me feeling that I had little time to recover. This property is also very isolated, and there is no cell service for verizon so I relied on wifi to stay in contact with my family.

The most concerning part of my stay was when I attempted to leave early. When I told my host, Yasoda, that I wanted to go home, she expressed displeasure that I had discussed the situation with my family and told me that I didn't have to listen to them. Because the property is so isolated away from town, I felt uncomfortable directly expressing my wish to leave.. I eventually used illness as an explanation because I felt it would allow me to leave with the least confrontation. After my the host finally agreed to give me a ride to the train station, she insisted that I verify that my train was coming before allowing me to retrieve my belongings from her car. I feel that access to my belonging was being used as leverage. Our final interaction ended with her telling me, "Have a nice life Amaria," in a tone i feel was quite hostile.

I 100% understand this kind of exchange requires flexibility and physical effort. I learned a lot about my own boundaries from this experience, but I would not return... The beautiful accommodations did not outweigh the unrealistic work expectations, food concerns, isolation, and distress I experienced when trying to leave. I would urge prospective volunteers to clarify the actual workload before accepting this placement. My experience was very different from the positive experiences described by other reviewers, and I can only speak about what happened during my stay.

New Workawayers can be a hit or miss. Amaria was certainly a "miss". Even though we bent our two week minimum stay rule to have her come for 10 days she was here for four days, and of those four days worked for two.
