Description
Hi!
I am from Norway, studying a master's in Biotechnology, doing my exchange in New Zealand at the University of Otago. Enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities, hiking, camping, spearfishing and hunting. Grew up around Oslo, but have a strong connection to my roots in a rural part of Norway, Setesdal, where I spent all of my summers and winters growing up. Got my first snowmobile at 6 months from my dad, maybe a little early, as the only thing I understood was turning the fuel cap off! Having had a very active upbringing, I have spent more time than I care to imagine doing cross-country skiing and biathlon, both for competitions but also long trips in the Norwegian forests and mountains with bonfires, cheese sandwiches and "pinnebrød".
Having worked in forestry two summers in a row, I very much enjoy working outdoors when I'm not studying. It's important to me to maintain and improve my practical skills, as it gives me a much-needed balance and counterpart to my academically heavy field of study. I am not foreign to doing hard work when necessary, and would love to learn as much as possible about creative and smart solutions to boring problems. Also love all kinds of animals, especially reptiles, having volunteered and later worked at a reptile zoo. Have not done a workaway before, but am going wwofing in december on the North Island in New Zealand, clearing Gorse for 2 weeks.
As a person, I am very glad and interested in anything new, easy-going going and independent. Learning how things are done differently and expanding my horizon for how nature can be enjoyed and lived in harmony with. I usually take some time to warm up to new people, but when I'm comfortable, I very much enjoy others' company and am quite social.

More details about your skills
I have a fair bit of experience in forestry, having worked in our family forest last two summers. Mainly using chainsaws and bushcutters, I have done thinning and felling trees to give room for bigger pine and spruce to grow. Also experience in woodcutting using an axe and fancier tools, as our old farm houses in Setesdal only use wooden stoves for heating.
Some experience with working on machines and engines, mostly snowmobiles and outboard engines, but mainly very basic, so I would love to improve in that area given the opportunity. Have had a couple of painting projects back home, and general maintenance needed to maintain up to 300-year-old houses. General good practical skillsets, aiming to learn more on all types of DIY projects, house maintenance, carpentry and woodworking!
