Description
Hello,
Hola,
Ni Hao,
I am Moe! :D
I have energy for days and passion to match it! I make a lot of jokes. Forgive me if I try to be funny and it does not translate through the screen!
Besides a wealth of humor and smiles, I offer you a volunteer with a diverse range of experience and open mind that loves nothing more than a challenge, both mentally and physically. I am 30 years old and am physically strong and capable of manual work and mentally goal oriented. I love to learn, and grow and direction is taken well. I am a hard, dedicated worker good at assisting or taking initiative and leading. Being a part of a community is really important to me, I work great in groups or on solo projects. I am really interested in expanding my skills to incorporate carpentry and construction. I am happy working with my hands and getting dirty, the garden is one of my favorite places to be for that reason!! I would be stoked to work with plants and animals on a farm.
Most of my recent working/life experience has been in outdoor education in the Pacific Northwest, teaching kids how to not only survive in nature, but thrive. I've had the time of my life learning all about the local plants and animals and how to track and identify them, how to make a fire without using a lighter or matches, shelter building, plant foraging, archery, knife carving, stealth and camouflage, natural arts and more!!! I bring these skills to all that are interested, though I may need to relearn the plants and animals of Mexico and am very eager to do so!!
My experience working with children is from babies 6months old to 17 years old and everything in between. In addition to primitive skills and art, I also gained experience teaching English while I was in China. I am at about kindergarten level at speaking Mandarin, Chinese as well. My Spanish is probably about the same level, but I am really looking forward to using and learning more Espanol!
This is really exciting because I have not fired up my WorkAway account since Pre-pandemic!! The last time I used it was for Fundacion Montecito in Colombia, right up until March 2020 when the borders were closing. I ended up settling in during the pandemic and got a dog and a full time job in Portland, Oregon and did the whole domestic "adult thing". It has been great, I love my life but I will not be young and able bodied forever; my soul feels ready to be free again and embark on a journey that hopefully leads me to you!
I got my bachelors degree in journalism and photojournalism in AZ. I minored in environmental science, political science and anthropology in Arizona. I'm still passionate about taking pictures and love writing and editing, and would be happy to help with social media projects and blogs . This journey will be documented with such love and I would love to share any footage I gather along the way.
I will be driving through Mexico with my dog, Chaka. He is a 5 year old corgi mix. Chaka is a sweet and hilarious guy with a lot of energy and loves to play. I love to run him with my bike, which I will also bring. He can be slightly shy to strangers at first but he warms up quickly!! Chaka gets along great with kids and other other dogs. I will happily take care of his needs independently!!
Chaka and I are a very lively pair, sure to add character or at least entertainment to any place we visit. We both are very fast learners and love to be around people. I have been dreaming of taking a journey like this for at least three years now. I do not want to be a tourist of Mexico, I want to be a part of it. I want to get to know where I am staying, but give back to the place and people. I appreciate that workaway provides the opportunity to do that. -
