Description
Currently in Budapest, Hungary
I’m Fran (26), and I’d describe myself as someone who’s never able to stay at one place for too long, I constantly search for new experiences and my thirst for knowledge is unquenchable!
I’ve lived in 5 different countries so far and although I love being in unfamiliar environments with brand new faces there's some familiar things I can't live without like furry friends, sweets, great books & movies and nature ☺️ As I have lived in many places and travelled a lot, I love talking about my experiences and especially hearing the stories of others! I adore walking and hiking in all types of environments, be it a tropical forest or a nighttime cityscape.
I studied philosophy at university and it’s one of my greatest passions; I’m always eager to both share my knowledge with others and expand my own. Apart from that I do have a wide range of other interests and I love being around people proficient in their own professions. Some work and non-work-related skills I’m interested in developing are cooking, dog training, horse riding, writing, woodworking and permaculture. I don’t have face-forward social media profiles and I’m conscientious about my use of technology. I try and look after my body so I don't drink nor smoke and I incorporate physical movement into my daily life that will keep me healthy for a long time to come. I’m interested in alternative ways of living as many aspects of modern life and the life-path that I felt like was laid out for me are just not working for my value system. My favourite question is 'Why?' and it's the motivation behind all that I do, the curiosity that drives me to travel and have analytical conversations and to expose myself to unfamiliar circumstances and people. I love to see into how folks in different places live and hear their thoughts about life, love, morality, humour and whatever else they are interested in sharing with me - I'm a great listener 😊
I have experience with paid work as a receptionist, translator, waitress, barista, housekeeper, kitchen-hand, warehouse worker, and dog handler at a kennel. I tend to gravitate to positions that involve manual labour. Whatever my position’s been, I’ve always taken my job seriously and did my absolute best. I’ve been told that I can come across as quite serious at first, but once I warm up to someone my goofy side comes out and I love sharing meals and laughter with others. I value honesty and being direct. I’m not a great salesman and I’m not interested in businesses focused on profit maximization. I was a scout growing up, and also earned a gold Duke of Edinburgh award, both of which taught me skills such as building fires, easy wood projects, orienteering, hike planning, project management and resilience above all. I have volunteering experience as well, both on Workaway and during my high school years. The ones involving Workaway where garden maintenance and permaculture oriented, with some beekeeping but I also have fond memories of helping my grandmother in her small vegetable garden in my youth, and in recent years I have helped out at my father’s small vineyard during harvests. During my travels in New Zealand, I had a few days' experience at a large sheep farm where I could get a glimpse into the everyday reality of running a farm and we found it very enlightening and rewarding. As I am a huge animal lover, I would live to find an opportunity where I can realise my wish to be close to nature while simultaneously being able to care for animals. I have looked after many dogs at this point and I cannot tire of taking care of these wonderful creatures.
I’m quite independent, and like many travellers I value and delight in my freedom. I like having my own space and time away from others, which is complementary to my need of being around like-minded people with whom I can work with. I’ve been told that I’m reliable and conscientious, and have had great experiences working in small teams while being able to take on responsibilities of my own where I can prove my competence. I pick information up quickly and feel comfortable with learning on the job. I learn a lot by observing but I also learn by asking questions, and I tend to ask a lot of them; I don’t take well to instructions and commands without explanations as I come from a research-based environment. -
