  • Description

Tēnā koutou! My name is Jeanli, I'm a 29-year-old female hailing from the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand :)

After studying medicine and completing my internship years in a regional hospital, I'm looking to explore the world from fresh perspectives and make meaningful connections with others. Last year I spent 5 months travelling (including a month working on a vegetable farm through WWOOF) and really appreciated the opportunities to learn more about other cultures and ways of living. The hospital can become a bit of a vacuum and I believe it is very important to take time to explore different viewpoints. I would also love to learn more about becoming self-sufficient so that I can eventually incorporate this into rural general practice through setting a lifestyle example for whatever community I end up working in. I grew up on a farm in a big family and love being outdoors amongst both flora and fauna, and also worked on a watercress farm while I was a student.

    My skills include:
    * Gardening including weeding, composting, planting, raising seedlings, harvesting, and landscaping. The vege patch has always been my domain!
    * Looking after animals including dogs, pigs, sheep, and chickens (yes I can give antibiotics to chickens when needed ;). Have milked cows both by hand and machine
    * House work including cleaning, organising, and cooking hearty meals
    * Childcare - I love being aunty to my nephews and niece, and have also spent six months on the children’s ward so I am very used to interacting with young people. I have police clearance to work with children as well.
    * I am not afraid of hard work and am very keen to learn new DIY skills such as carpentry, refurbishing furniture, and tiling.
    * My strengths are honesty, reliability, and creativity. I am easy to communicate with, and would always take on board any feedback from my hosts.

My hobbies include immersing myself in nature, hiking, learning new skills, reading, and making friends from different cultures :) I also love playing music (mainly classical piano and Celtic harp, but was in a Beatles cover band for a while - very keen to try new ways of making music with others and learn new instruments!). My family are a big part of my life as well, and I can't wait to show the little ones how much there is to see and do in our world - caring not only for other people but also for the environment we live in.

Currently I am at a homestay through Workaway in NZ, and my host would be happy to provide a reference if desired. Look forward to hearing from you!

Happy to help anyone needing to practice English. I’m always interested in the learning the basics of other languages when possible. Can speak a little bit of Dutch due to one side of my extended family being from the Netherlands :)
