Description

Hi, my name is Katja, I’m an illustrator based in Berlin (not anymore).
Currently, I’m finishing my very first graphic novel about a bunch of different things such as dreams, synchronicities, self-development, magic and human connections.

The winter is coming, nothing is holding me in the city anymore. I decided to reactivate my account here and look where life takes me next. This is my second time starting an adventure with workaway (the first time I went to the Peruvian jungle for a month to reconnect with nature and to draw).
I’d love to be in nature again, with like-minded people where I can be involved in any meaningful project, helping with concepts or painting murals. I am hard working and down for learning new things.

I have a healthy lifestyle, friends would describe me as mainly introverted, I like a good balance of connecting with others and being alone. I‘m practicing yoga, reading, hugging trees, illustrating (katjaiva.com), tattooing and attending soul/jazz jam sessions. My favourite movies of all time are Lord of the Rings, Matrix and Spirited away.

Earlier I felt a big urge to start a revolution, to do sth against injustice in the world. Now I believe that the biggest revolution might be the expansion of our consciousness and reconnect fully with nature again.


What I did professionally so far:
After school I studied communication design, worked in a few graphic design agencies, felt super unhappy because I knew that I really should pursue my own artistic thing. Actually I wanted to have a hermit life in the Himalaya, far away from the western world and its capitalism but then my mom gave me a tattoo machine for Christmas, so I moved to Berlin in 2020 (Hermannplatz, probably one of the busiest places in Germany). Almost Himalaya.
The beginning: I met my best friend, learned tattooing, took over a tattoo studio with other artists who I met on a festival while working there, started to process my experiences in a zine, which then turned into a graphic novel, which is still in the making.
Now I’m recalibrating again. What first felt right is stepping aside, making space for something new. I’m so excited to see what’s coming next :))
