  • Description

Hi! My name is Imala and I'm a 28 year old woman from the South Australian "outback". I studied Classical Singing at university in Adelaide and after graduating I have lived most of the past 7 years in France and London, with lots of travelling in between.
I grew up on a big property with animals and was homeschooled for the first few years of my schooling. I am vegetarian, however I am happy to eat meat stock/fish sauce/kimchi etc and will just avoid eating pieces of meat or fish. I love cooking and am more than happy to cook for you! I love history, culture, languages, and all things related to the arts and music. Although I have never formally taught English, I have a TEFL certificate and was an au pair in Paris so I have lots of experience looking after children. I would love to help with childcare and practicing English. I am adventurous and independent - I love getting to know people and discovering their culture and way of life, but am also happy to spend time alone.
I love music, theatre, visiting museums and art galleries, spending time in nature, playing board games and card games, eating, travelling, and learning about new cultures and languages.
I am planning to spend 5 months exploring Asia and learning as much as I can about this beautiful part of the world. When I was growing up, my family was involved in an organisation called Servas where we stayed with families and hosted travellers as a cultural exchange, and I found this to be such a priceless experience to meet wonderful people and be fully immersed in different cultures and ways of life.
I first joined Workaway in 2019 but sadly was unable to gain any experience due to changing travel plans and then the pandemic, so I am really excited for my first Workaway experience after all this time!

  • More details about your skills

I am open to trying almost anything new and I am a quick learner with an eye for detail. I have experience looking after children and cooking for a family (although I am not experienced in cooking meat). I have worked as a tour guide, administrator, usher, box office assistant, crew member, bartender, barista, waiter, cleaner, au pair/nanny, babysitter, and opera singer. I have also completed work experience at a public library and a cultural centre, which included cataloguing books and graphic design of posters. I can sing many different styles and play basic piano and flute. love gardening but I am no expert - however I am open to learning more! I love animals but don't have a lot of experience with farm animals, but I am always keen to learn.
