  • Description

I want to use the chance of having the time and freedom to see more of the world before starting proper adult working life. During my education I spent two years abroad and had the opportunity to see parts of Europe and Africa. South America is next on my list.
This is my first time travelling solo, so I thought starting with a nice Workaway project would be a great way to do it.
I enjoy outdoor adventures (I can never say no to a campfire), as well as games and musical activities with others. I’m always curious to learn new things—right now I’m especially working on my Spanish, of course.
I’m a very sociable person, usually quite cheerful, and always up for a joke.

The opportunity to learn Spanish is one of the reasons of my journey. Of course I would offer to teach some German or English in exchange.

I have a teaching qualification for primary school in mathematics, German and music, so working with children and helping them learn comes very naturally to me. I also have a 7-year-old godchild and have loced being closely involved in caring for him since he was born, as well as his 3-year-old sister.

During my volunteer service in Kenya I gained hands-on experience in agriculture and practical work. I’ve sown, maintained and harvested potatoes, tomatoes, coffee and all kinds of greens. Back home in Germany my gardening sadly only extends to herbs and strawberries on my balcony—but that’s still better than nothing, right?

I’ve also helped with both traditional and modern construction work, from building clay houses to laying bricks. My parents are currently refurbishing an old barn and I regularly help them there. That can involve anything from tearing down old walls to installing a brand-new lightning rod on a 20-meter-high roof.

Music is another big part of my life. I’ve been playing the violin since I was six years old. During my studies I also trained in classical singing and piano, and along the way I picked up some ukulele and guitar. My latest project is learning the trumpet, and I always enjoy sharing music with others and passing on skills.

My English is very good since I spent a year in England and another in Kenya, and my native language is German. Spanish is quite new for me, but I really enjoy exploring languages and have already tried out several others such as Swedish, Polish, Japanese, Swahili and sign language. Because of that I usually pick up new languages fairly quickly, and also I have a good foundation in French, which I fell is quite close to Spanish. So I’m very happy to take on the challenge of improving my Spanish.

Even though my profession means I’m very comfortable working with children, what I’m especially looking forward to here is spending time outdoors, working with my hands and experiencing something a bit different from my everyday life.

I enjoy all sorts of games. In my freetime I play Quidditch and on my less adventurous days I like to read—Legolas, Ginny Weasly and Arya Stark usually keep me company.
