Description
Hello hello!
This is Gerard from Barcelona, Spain.
I just finished my engineering bachelor’s and I’m taking a gap year before I start my master’s.
I have always loved exploring new cultures and places, so during the summers of my study years, I traveled as much as possible and participated in four volunteer programs.
I taught Math and English to children in Kenya, volunteered at a Norwegian mountain hostel where I was mainly in charge of kitchen and housekeeping tasks, worked on a farm in Thailand, and was an Au Pair in Iceland.
What I enjoyed the most about these experiences was the joy they brought me, being surrounded by fellow travelers and locals and helping people. Those moments really shaped who I am today.
Although my family is originally from a small town just outside Barcelona, I did my studies in the city. When I turned 21, I moved out and went on an exchange program to Ljubljana, Slovenia (in the amazing college dorms!). I completed my degree there and afterwards took a job in the Netherlands. Eventually, I decided to quit and finally start the gap year I had always wanted to take.
I consider myself reliable and hardworking, as well as a quick learner who adapts easily to new environments. Beyond my volunteer programs, I also took a three-month solo trip through Southeast Asia, which further enriched my perspective and independence.
I am a native speaker of Spanish and Catalan, and fluent in English. Currently, I am learning German, but I only know the basics for now.
And that is a small summary of who I am and how I could be useful as a volunteer!
As for my plans: in January I’ll be heading to Sri Lanka. By early March, I hope to be in India to experience the Holi festival. After that, I’d love to travel to Nepal for some time in the mountains. By midApril, I plan to return to Thailand, this time specifically to experience Songkran. After that, I’ll stay flexible and see how things unfold. I would love to explore Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, and more, depending on what opportunities and connections come along the way. I like keeping things open and letting the journey guide me :)
I am really looking forward to this new adventure, as well as to meeting wonderful people on the way.
Thanks for reading! And see you soon? :)
