  • Description

I am a nurse practitioner and have worked in many aspects of the medical field. My position for the past 2 years is with refugee health services providing medical care for asylum seekers who have just entered the US. I love helping this population. The stories can be heartbreaking . At times our clients are badly injured , suffer from PTSD or critical illness . They are incredibly determined and resilient. The job is so rewarding. A little kindness goes a long way. I love to travel and learn about other cultures.I have hosted many foreign students and been a Servas host. I recently retired hoping to travel the globe for a few years, experiencing new cultures and volunteering. I am very interested in learning more about healthy food production, sustainable living , alternative housing, water and wildlife conservation. I have no problem living simply as I am very concerned about the future of the planet . I enjoy working with children. I loved being a nurse and could be assistance to someone who is disabled or needs help with daily chores. Teaching disease prevention, healthcare and hygiene would be something I would enjoy as well . I love nature, music, hiking , biking . It brings me happiness to give back to people who haven't been blessed with the life I have . I have seen a great deal of suffering.
MYy past travels include Turkey, Nepal, Jordon, Israel, Egypt, many European countries, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia,Australia , New Zealand, Mexico, Colombia and Belize.I recently set off for a 2 year trip around the world but unfortunately 4 months in I shattered my knee in rural Albania. My solo adventures have been very spontaneous often staying at hostels and taking all forms of public transportation. I love the challenge of navigating a new country. Sustaining a major injury in Albania has made me realize some of the pitfalls of being completely independant in rural areas.
I intend to restart my travels sometime between June and September starting in either Australia where I have a number of close friends or New Zealand where my daughter resides. Sri Lanka , Borneo and Laos are on my wish list . Which also includes Georgia, the Stan's, Tunisia, Morocco, Oman, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Ghana , South Africa , Argentina , Chile, Suriname, Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala. My itinerary is wide open depending on opportunities , global conflicts and any unforseen natural disasters as one must be flexible.
