Description
Hi I'm Erik from Germany! I am currently at the end of my studying phase (Geoecology) and very curious to learn new and more practical-orientated things. I have a big interest in nature, how different species interact with each other, the environment and with us humans and our way of living and cultivating the land. What really motivates me now is to practically learn about sustainable land-use and permaculture. I am an enthusiastic ornithologist and love going out for birding! Being active outdoor with other people - hiking and camping but also running and climbing - always makes my happy. Through travelling and doing workaway I hope to meet new people, exchange knowledge and learn from each other.

I could imagine teaching german to someone despite having no experience in language teaching. I started learning Greek 2 years ago but didnt follow through and stopped after half a year. But I am still interested in the language and would love to learn it! I learned Russian in school and in my first study year but didnt practise it at all the last years. But I would love to refresh it. In general, I am very interested in any language!

More details about your skills
During my studies in Geoecology, I worked theoretically and practically on environmental topics. We focused on processes going on in biosphere, geosphere incl. soils, atmosphere and hydrosphere and connections between them. Also we learned about human impact on these environmental systems. Practically we did several measurements on lake and river waters and soils. Alongside my studies I worked in an environmental planning office where most of the time I mapped birds in different projects. We also did a lot of mist-netting of bats. We ringed them or sometimes put a gps transmitter on them. I personally am not a ringer, I just worked on getting the bats out of the mist net - I actually handled a lot of bats in my hands the last years! On other days we installed nest-boxes for birds and bats or amphibial protection fences alongside roads. Before starting my studies I did a volunteering year in a nature protection area. As the area is located on a former soviet military area, I worked on removing old garbage and scrap metal a lot of the time. I also helped in building fences, signs or a high seat for hunters. In addition my love for birds started here since we did some bird monitoring in the area. I speak German as a native language, English as my second language and some little words in Russian. I am very interested in languages and could also think about teaching German to someone.

What else ...
I started climbing 2,5 years ago and really love it both outdoor and indoor. I also love doing alpine tours although I am still a beginner. But I had the chance to do some great tours over 4000 m in the alps and it was amazing! Also I love doing sports. I played handball in my childhood and floorball now in university. But my main sport is orienteering, wich I did quite competitive some years ago. I am very interested in natural food and cooking and would like to learn more!
