Description
Hi! I´m Emilia and I joined Workaway because I want to have new experiences, learn a lot and grow with my challenges. I consider myself an adventurous, calm, responsible and honest person.
I love to meet new people und learn, and am always open to new things, especially now, because I just finished school this summer and want to start a work and travel year in Canada. After that year I will start to study law at a university in my homecountry.
I grew up in a rural area (700 residents in my hometown...) and am quite familiar with being a longer drive away from the next big city. I also don´t really enjoy being in a bigger city and will always prefer a life surrounded by nature.
Apart from that, I am well-travelled and have been to many countries: Austria, the Czech Republic, Sweden (beautiful in the winter!), Ireland (will always want to return), Croatia, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. Well and Canada now :)
And I grew up surrounded by animals, and have had pets my whole life. Right now, our family owns a cat and a dog, with whom I enjoy long walks in the forest. My other hobbies are riding horses, listening to music (if you're interested, I´d love to chat about that!), cuddling with any animal willing to, sketching, reading, hiking (in the Alps, if possible) and some hobby photography (if you have any experience about that, I´m always open to learn more) -

More details about your skills
Because I grew up in a rural area I also have a lot of experience with horses. All in all I have been involved with them for about 14 years, and I am comfortable with: riding (with or without saddle), grooming, saddling, tacking up, cleaning the stables, turning them out to their pasture, lunging, the most basic medical treatments, trail riding and all the other basics you need to know to handle horses. ( I have to note that I only know the english style of riding and that not on a competition level, but know how to handle some horses with a bit of a character).
I also had a two week internship at the local farrier and am now able to help farriers at their work and take horseshoes off in case of an emergency. And if you have any additional experince in that i would love to learn more!
Also I was working at a private dressage stable with young horses before I left for Canada as a stable hand and my duties usually included grooming, giving occasionially medicine, saddling, tacking up, lunging them for exercise or before being ridden, receiving the horses after training again, feeding them, bringing them from and to their pasture, mucking out the stables and sweeping, so I´m well used to this kind of labour.
I also have experience in hay making, for I´ve helped for 4 seasons at the stable I was riding at before I left and am able to stack hay bales without a problem on a moving trailer (see photos) or stacking them into a hayloft.
Additionally I worked at a specialized farm (Hoppelino Heuherberge) where I became familiar with all sorts of work: animal care for a variety of animals, kitchen aid, cooking, cleaning, planning and executing childrens birthdays, customer service, planning and executing entertaintment events, etc... I also learned how to work in a fast paced work environment where multitasking is needed.
All in all I would say I´m a fast and eager learner as soon as i get the gist of something and honesty is one of my most importamt assets for me.
(also, as I am living in northern Germany, I am well accostumed to a lot of rain and have no problem with any kind of bad weather....seriously, don´t come here if you don´t have at least one rain jacket) -

What else ...
I also want to mention that I have a genetic condition. This was only recently discovered by accident and I have almost no restrictions in my everyday life.
As a host, you do NOT need to make any adjustments for me because of that, I just need access to a power outlet for charging my hearing aids, they charge just like a phone!
Also, because of that diagnosis I have a restricted drivers license. I am legally able to drive a manual or automatic car but with certain rescritions in my homecountry. However this kind of drivers license is not really acknowledged internationally and the legal scope is not clear, so I would like to do without driving on public roads in Canada.
If you have any questions, please don´t hesitate to ask! -
