Hi! We are Deva and Faline* two best friends from the south Island of New Zealand, travelling through south east Asia together. We love the outdoors, rock climbing, adventures, animals, connecting with kids and travelling to new places. We are looking for meaningful volunteering positions where we get to experience as much of the local culture as possible while also giving back and hopefully making a positive impact while we backpack through Asia. We both grew up in a small rural towns in New Zealand surrounded by nature, animals and mountains. The planet is incredibly important to us and we love any opportunity to do some good for it. We love learning about new places and cultures and are seeking volunteering positions where we can learn and grow from sharing knowledge and skills. We are travelling with the goal to fully immerse ourselves in the places we go and "slow" travel without set plans or routes. Thanks for reading :))

More details about your skills

I (Deva) have a lot of experience working with, teaching and mentoring kids. I spent three years running my own hip hop dance company for kids and teens, I have also taught drama classes to kids and youth and have been hired to run local holiday programs for children from my hometown. I have my New Zealand youth work qualification. I have a lot of hospitality experience, running the front of house by myself in three different restaurants in the past two-three years. I have volunteered at festivals, schools and charities doing a variety of tasks including helping with food preparation, teaching kids English, organising events and more. I spent a summer assisting my dad build our current house, I did a lot of heavy lifting and using different power tools, I also have experience volunteering with workaway, last year in Italy helping with DIY projects and garden work and this year in Thailand teaching kids English in a local school in Chiang Mai.

I (Faline) love working with children, I grew up as the second oldest of 5 and was always very close with my younger siblings
I run arts and craft workshops through a community based education program for kids of varying ages. I have volunteered helping run weekend retreats for mothers and daughters and have done various babysitting jobs for many years.
I spent almost 3 years working as a retail supervisor in a busy local grocery store which gave me a lot of skills working with people, whether it be training new staff, dealing with refunds and other customer inquiries or communicating with the other supervisors and managers about issues.
I grew up alongside many animals and I have a good understanding of gardening and I am always open to learn more
I had a great time volunteering though workaway last year in Europe staying with a few different hosts and doing a variety of tasks including taking care of animals, gardening, house work, renovation, helping out at events and some DIY projects
I am ready to be involved 100% and I not afraid to get my hands dirty
