  • Description

    Hey ! 🌱
I am Jeanne, a girl in her early 20’s looking for adventures, willing to connect with people and to put my time and energy to good use and to dedicate myself to meaningful and fun projects ! ☀

I come from France and grew up around Dijon (just like the mustard 😄) and have been living in Lyon for 5 years. There I studied Engineering and Architecture and I am now just about to get my Civil Engineering degree. I have managed to learn a bit about ecobuilding, alternative materials and am highly sensitized to ecological issues.
My studies were a great experience and have taught me a lot (don’t ask me to conceive and build a proper bridge however, things would go terribly wrong 🤷‍♀️), but I am now aiming at taking a step-back from it, getting more hands-on experience on eco building, sustainable ways of life. I am willing, all over, to gain confidence to think a lot more “outside the box” by discovering new cultures, other mindsets, learning a bunch of new skills to become a little more self-sufficient while sharing what I know 😉
I will be free of doing what I want from September, and I’m highly enthusiastic about being able to give a hand and help out great and open people !
Other than that, in my free time I like reading, hiking, climbing, and especially doing/making things with my hands such as cooking, sewing, DIYing and would love to know more about woodworking ! I also love spending quality time with beer/wine talking, joking and sharing stories, as well as playing board games 🤗!
I have already volunteered in a few Workaways, one three years ago in England where I’ve helped with gardening, taking care of ducks, hens (and alpacas !), another one was last year in Germany. We lived with a friend for a few weeks in a community that felt like a family, building together a cultural center with hemp, clay, hardwork, lots of laughter and deep and meaningful conversations. This autumn and winter, I have been traveling in Eastern Europe, and this has been the opportunity for me to discover a lot about cultures I knew too few about, to experience different ways of living (in a farm in the hungarian countryside, in a yurt in a Polish enchanted forest in the Winter time, or in a future community-hub in Austria).

In short, I am curious about everything, would love having fun making things with and don’t mind getting my hands dirty !

  • More details about your skills

I have participated in some wood working projects at school so I have some basic knowledge on it. In my last Workaway I learned so much, such as mounting up walls with a hemp-lime mixture, clay plastering walls, and some all over knowledge on clay and why/how/when it can be used.
Traveling in Eastern Europe in the Autumn/Winter and staying in Workaways which offered basic/rustic accomodations in a very rough weather or area has taught me that I can handle quite a lot and be pretty tough when needed 😅
I have also worked every summer I could in the fields and the kitchen of a liquorist back in my hometown, and thus can handle physical work.
I also know about cooking (which has been useful in my previous Workaways), sewing and other things I would love to share ! Housework doesn’t scare me, and I am able to live quite independently (event though I love sharing my time with people !)
I don’t have trouble with speaking English, I speak a (tiny) bit of Spanish and am about to try and learn German (I have learned a few words in my previous Workaway, but clearly not enough to be able to really understand nor speak it unfortunately, so it could be one of my objectives if you speak it ! Right now I only have a limited list of words/ expressions I know, including “Genau”, “Ich spreche kein Deutsch”, “Ich habe mich verlaufen”, “Gut gemacht”, “Schwarwälder Kirschtorte” which is nice but… limited !)
I do have a driver’s license, if needed.
