Hi, I'm Bettina from Munich in southern Germany.
I'm an artist and photographer and I love traveling. My other favorite thing to do is to cook for groups, I love preparing meals. I work as a freelancer and try to live on my artwork and Graphic-design. I have a 28 year old son who just started working as a doctor.

I work freelance in my creative job with photogrphy and graphic design and I have the skills to do this on the computer. I teach photogrphy and I also love cooking for groups, so this is my second base earning money.

During my 4-week stay at the farm, I had a wonderful time and learned how to work with cows, including everything related to milking them and handling large quantities of milk. Minjee also demonstrated the various products that can be made from milk.

Living on a diet mainly consisting of rice, potatoes, pasta, meat, and milk, we became quite inventive with our meals. While vegetables are not a Mongolian specialty, meat lovers will find this place to be a paradise. Nevertheless, we were also able to create delicious dishes for the vegetarians among us. In addition, we learned to cook different Mongolian dishes.

Despite the daily routine of farm work, each day felt unique and special. The farm is situated in a breathtaking landscape, approximately 5 km from the nearest village (Orchon, which is about an 8-hour train ride from Ulaan Bataar). The area is surrounded by free-roaming cows and horses, making it a truly picturesque location.

Life on the farm was simple, with no showers, and we cooked outdoors using a basic stove. Accommodations involved staying together in one house/room with 4 to 8 volunteers, all of whom shared daily tasks. Apart from taking care of the cows, we also built a terrace around the volunteer's house, did gardenwork, and planted spring onions in Minjee's sister's greenhouse. Additionally, we had enjoyable excursions to Dachan, a nearby town approximately an hour away. We had a great time hiking in the mountains and exploring the nearby river. The highlight was attending the Nadaam festival, where we witnessed horseracing, wrestling, and archery competitions. It was truly an unforgettable event.

We couldn't ride horses during our time at the farm, I hope that will change soon ;-))

Minjee is an exceptional woman, and I truly cherish the time we spent together. I hope we meet again.
This was my first Workaway experience, yet not my last. I had the pleasure to meet many amiable and great young individuals.

Tip: If possible, bring good rubber boots as working with cows involves dealing with a lot of cow pooh, especially during rainy days and thunderstorms.
