  • Description

I'm from Tartu, a lovely town of 100,00 on the riverbed of Emajõgi. Tartu is often considered the intellectual centre of Estonia, especially as it is home to the nation's oldest and most renowned university, the University of Tartu. I have lived here almost my whole life and I love this city very much. Although city life is dear to me, I lived in Setomaa (South Estonia) for fifteen years. There I raised my children, kept a horticultural farm and bought and sold forest products.

I truly care about the health of our planet and you'll often find me involved with nature and the environment. Whether that's as a frequent volunteer at the local nature reserves for creating suitable habitats for wildlife and cleaning up the environment, or serving as a board member for various environmental NGOs in Estonia.
My latest volunteer work in Estonian Fund for Nature:
“Toad on the road” actions in certain sections of the highway, where we are helping large numbers of toads who travel to their mating places cross the highway safely.
Nature conservation holidays where volunteers, participants and group managers work together in order to improve the living conditions of a certain species (i.e. tatterjack toad, black stork) or maintain semi-natural communities and so on.

I like to learn and be open to new knowledge / opportunities.
    My learning path and knowledge:
BSc in Nature Sciences - Institute of Agricultural and Environmental sciences, Estonian University of Life Sciences (Management of urban and industrial landscapes). Principles of urban and industrial landscapes, which includes planning sustainable activities in industrial and urban landscapes and developing high-quality living environments both in the countryside and in town.
MSc in Nature Sciences - Faculty of Science and technology, University of Tartu (Environmental technology). Principles of environmental chemistry, - physics, - analysis and methods of monitoring technologies, biotechnology, ecology and chemical processes. Including principles of water technology, waste treatment, sustainable development and agriculture etc.
An alumnus of the program “Noored Kooli” (Teach For Estonia). Teach For All is developing collective leadership to improve education and expand opportunity for all children, so they can shape a better future for themselves and the world around them.
I am currently working as a primary school teacher (mother tongue, mathematics, science, art) and teach science in secondary school. In addition to the usual science lessons, I also supervise the girls' science group.

In free time love crafts of all kinds (currently knits), cooking, baking bread and singing in a choir. When relaxing, I'll turn to music, books and documentaries.

I find workaway fascinating, as it gives you an opportunity to not only travel, but try a completely different job and truly experience the local culture, people and the lives they're leading. Practicing a foreign language is also very important!
