    Activities i am interested in:

I'm planning to travel around South and Central America starting with Costa Rica. I want to meet new people, experience local culture, practice my Spanish, learn bachata and enjoy sightseeing.

  • Description

I’m a positive, social person who loves experiencing and learning new things. One of the most amazing things about travelling for me is exchanging cultures with strangers who become friends.

I've lived for short periods of time in other countries and I love immersing myself in new, beautiful settings. I'm going to be studying anthropology at university next year which is a concrete reflection of my real interest in other cultures and communities. I’m very keen to learn about other people's ways of life and be immersed in new settings.

My personal goals are to gain life experience whilst getting to know myself better and more widely I’m aligned with global goals to move towards full environmental sustainability, giving to those in need and reducing inequality.

I love exploring new places, socialising with others, making music, photography, hiking, reading and making (then eating) good food!

I enjoy teaching and I'm a certified TEFAL teacher. I have taught English for three months (in a Mexican language school) and have tutored refugees in English. I love learning new languages as I feel like its the gateway to different cultures. I am particularly interested in improving my Spanish and also would enjoy developing my French.

  • More details about your skills

I really enjoy being with people and connecting with them. The feedback that I receive is that my people skills are excellent and I make friends quickly.

I’m a very hard worker and have worked in the service industry as a waitress, barmaid and barista at a five star hotel in my home town. I was also a waitress at events and have experience in waitressing and running for fine dining. All this has given me extensive experience with hard work and I have good practical skills like cleaning, organising, preparing a wide range of drinks and bar snacks and working under pressure. I am highly experienced with customers and have consistently delivered a five star experience which comes across in my professionalism and ability to relate with customers.

I also had positions as a tour guide for a local academic institution and as a marketing intern for a local tourism business. These experiences have strengthened my confidence in public engagement, improved my organisational abilities, and gave me practical insight into delivering high-quality service.

In my last month-long Workaway post, I further developed my domestic cleaning skills by deep cleaning Air BnBs before guests came to stay. I also did ironing and laundry for the business and did some light needlework. Alongside this I have also worked a forest, clearing the brush in case of forest fires.

I have completed a TEFAL course which certifies me to teach English as a foreign language and I have taught English for three months in a language school in Mexico. I also tutored refugees for six months helping them with basic maths and English. I speak intermediate French and beginner Spanish and would really like to work on improving my linguistic skills, particularly my Spanish.

I'm a very creative person and love music. I got my ABRSM diploma in singing last year, I play the harp and less seriously I enjoy tinkering on the piano and guitar. I do some acting and craft as well as photography and have been told I have an artistic eye for it despite not studying it directly.

Domestically, I enjoy cooking and I cook for my family and friends sometimes so I have experience in the kitchen too! I have also done some light gardening which I enjoy.

Overall, I am a quick learner and am ready to throw myself into any tasks that need doing.
