More details about your skills
Eleanor has a degree & Masters in Chemistry and 10 years working in Sustainability.
Alex has a degree & Master in Urban Planning and 10 years in community development / project management.
In addition to the above, we both completed a Permaculture course in 2013 (Ecuador) and Organic gardening course in 2022 (Bristol).
We have been growing fruits, vegetables, herbs, plants and trees using organic principles for 5 years on a small scale (balcony and small gardens), sometimes with success, sometimes not! We have experience with: sowing seeds, caring for seedlings and transplanting, preparing beds, mulching, weeding, watering, pruning, garden maintenance, building raised beds and storage sheds.
We have volunteered many times across different types of projects including 5 weeks WWOOFing in Spain, tending to vegetables and roses and taking care of the animals (sheep, pig, chickens, rabbits, guinnea pigs).
Elle has spent 2 weeks at the tree nursery at Trees For Life in Scotland, 1 week at the Community Farm in Somerset (UK), where tasks included harvesting leeks and onions, weeding, building pallet furniture.
Alex is a Trustee of our local community garden and has volunteered with refugees in Bristol and Greece for several years.
We have volunteered together with Bristol and Wales Cat Rescue and at several projects across South America, including:
- Permaculture Centre, Takura Renda, Paraguay 2013
- Wildlife Sanctuary, Inti Wara Yassi, Bolivia 2013
- Rio Muchacho Permaculture Site, Ecuador 2013
- Las Casas De Esperanza, Community development project, Nicaragua 2013
We both have growing experience from years spent looking after our own gardens and growing organic food.
Alex has built wooden planters for our garden, a bike storage unit, a wooden bin storage with raised beds and can contribute basic building skills. Alex also converted a van from the very beginning and is confident with basic house repairs. Alex spent 1 year as Volunteer Co-ordinate in Northern Greece working with refugee charity CalAid.
Elle just completed a course run by the Avon Wildlife Trust (Grow Wilder) on growing techniques and holistic landscape management. She is currently completing a conservation and ecology
course. Topics include: botany, birds, wildlife surveying techinques, rewilding, river restoration, ecology for food growers, soil health and management, planning vegetable production, water systems and plant health, food & seed sovereignty, therapeutic horticulture, volunteer management & project realisation.Age
