Description
Hello there! We are Sandy and Katha, a couple of six years, and have created this profile to explore the world together. In 2024 we have both finished our respective uni degrees and decided we need a break away from all the theoretical mental stuff and connect a little more with the sides of ourselves that like to get their hands dirty :) Hence this account!
A little bit about us: We have volunteered/traveled in various countries before and therefore know how enriching such experiences can be. This time we want to specifically gain more experiences with ecological/ethical approaches to farming, gardening, and self-sufficiency, as it aligns with interests we have developed over the recent years. We're also really interested in fibre/textile arts (and the arts in general) and have tried our hands at sewing, crocheting, embroidery, as well as knitting. In terms of preferences, we're both fairly versatile people who enjoy a long hike with friends or a quiet evening with a good book, depending on the day.

As mentioned, we have just finished up our time at university, Katha with a Bachelor's in digital media and Sandy with a Master's in history and cultural heritage. We have also both worked several customer service jobs and are ready to step away for some time from academia and office jobs.
While we have no professional background in agriculture or building anything, we have helped our friends and family with their gardens or modified our own furniture. We certainly have a strong diy attitude and usually first try to solve a problem with abilities and resources we already have. This is the kind of enthusiasm we bring to new projects and we would love to get the opportunity to harness our existing skills or develop new ones e.g. woodworking, animal care, food preservation or anything else people would like to share with us! We're very creatively driven and after several years together have become quite a good team.

Wir hatten eine wundervolle Zeit bei Carmen und Ekke auf dem Hof. Unsere erste Erfahrung mit Workaway hätte nicht besser sein können! In den knappen 2 Monaten die wir dort gelebt und gearbeitet haben, konnten wir eine Menge lernen und hatten viel Spaß dabei.
Die Versorgung der Pferde stand an erster Stelle, aber auch mit kleinere Aufgaben wie… read more Rasen mähen und Unkraut jäten waren wir gut beschäftigt. Auch bei der Heuernte konnten wir mithelfen! Die Arbeit war zwar teilweise hart, aber befriedigend und wir haben sie sehr gerne gemacht. Wir haben täglich im Durchschnitt 6 Stunden gearbeitet. Vor allem zur Vorbereitung auf die Heuernte gab es mehr zu tun. Jeder Tag war etwas anders und es wurde nie langweilig.
Der Umgang mit den Tieren (Pferde, Hunde und Katzen) hat uns sehr Spaß gemacht und wir konnten viel über Pferde lernen. Da es etwas dauert, sich auf die verschiedenen Tiere einzustellen, bzw. sie charakterlich auch kennenzulernen, empfehlen wir auf jeden Fall einen längeren Aufenthalt auf dem Hof. Der Kontakt zu Carmen und Ekke ist schnell hergestellt. Sie sind total liebe, hilfsbereite und offene Menschen und können beide super kochen! Die Atmosphäre auf dem Hof ist familiär und gemeinschaftlich, wir wurden direkt aufgenommen und integriert, auch von den anderen Pferdebesitzern.
Die Landschaft um den Hof ist wunderschön. Unsere kleinen Wander-Ausflüge in den nahegelegenen Wald haben wir sehr genossen. Auf dem Hof selbst kommen viele wilde Tiere vorbei. Wer z.B. gerne Vögel beobachtet hat immer was zu sehen.
Wir werden hoffentlich nochmal dort vorbeikommen!

We had a wonderful time with Carmen and Ekke on the farm. Our first experience with Workaway couldn't have been better! In the almost two months we lived and worked there, we learned a lot and had a lot of fun.
Caring for the horses was our top priority, but we also kept busy with smaller tasks like mowing the lawn and weeding. We were also able to help with the haymaking! Although the work was sometimes hard, it was satisfying and we enjoyed it very much. We worked an average of six hours a day. There was especially more to do in preparation for the haymaking. Every day was a little different and it never got boring.
We really enjoyed interacting with the animals (horses, dogs, and cats) and we learned a lot about horses. Since it takes some time to adjust to the different animals and get to know their personalities, we definitely recommend a longer stay on the farm. Contact with Carmen and Ekke is quickly established. They are really lovely, helpful, and open people, and they are both great cooks! The atmosphere on the farm is family-like and communal; we were immediately welcomed and integrated, and got along wonderfully with the other horse owners.
The landscape around the farm is beautiful. We really enjoyed our short hikes into the nearby forest. Many wild animals pass by the farm. For those who enjoy birdwatching, for example, there's always something to see.
We hope to visit again!
